His base won't change until they feel the pain. They firmly believe that everything bad they want to happen to others won't happen to them. They are racist, misogynic cowards that get their cookies off watching other people suffer, ignorant of the fact Trump thinks everyone that isn't worth at least a billion is just trash.

I hold little hope that even that will force a change of heart. I think it's much more likely that they just double down and dig in even harder. It's how cults tend to work when confronted with their own cognitive dissonance.

I don't think he will live long enough to even attempt a third term. The cognitive decline is apparent and runs in his family, so I have heard.
IIRC Fred Trump lived to age 95, albeit with dementia.

There's scant evidence to suggest Donny dies within 3 1/2 years.

There is also evidence that Donnie is terrified of having dementia himself. Hence all the cognitive tests he boasts about.

Yeah, that's what I meant by "there won't be an election." Because he'll cancel it. No, he's not just going to run for a third term. He's going to cause a Constitutional crisis by attempting to stay in office without running.

He can do whatever, who's going to stop him?

One thing people can stop doing is just assuming that people can get away with doing illegal things.

It's good to continually publicly shame and call out illegal and wannabe illegal things, and to demand an expectation that people will follow the rules. We should devolve into nihilism that serves to give people in power tacit permission to continue to be shitheads.

To be fair, it's no longer just an "assumption". Orange Jesus has proven time and again that he can do whatever he damn well pleases and there are no repercussions whatsoever.

Pssst .... the 20% base, he will deputize them to go after "illegals" and they will forget their pain.

There is no rules.
If it gets to that stage in America, it will truly be blood all over and likely a civil war and revolution. I don't believe Trump has that power. He's a mean, depressed old man and fundamentally witless. He's being used by people with a lot more money and wits than he has. I don't believe they are after blood so much as control.

Yes, I know he continues to do whatever he wants. We should still demand accountability.

There are expectations by virtue of the long history of democracy in the USA. Such as elections, primaries. Just because Trump acts as though he can change whatever he wants and impose his whims concerning this and that doesn't mean we have to act as though it's normal or acceptable to do that. There are laws, there's the constitution, Trump's oath to honor the constitution, the balance of power executive/congressional/judicial, so sacrosanct in our governance.

If Trump asserts that none of that matters, only him, he will rightly be fearing for his life. He's not invulnerable. I would think he couldn't even trust the Secret Service to protect him.

100% they will do anything to retain power. And they're dumb as shit. So.
