Do you think there are humans living on other planets in the universe?

Possible? Sure. I had a response that I canceled because I misread the question. We honestly have no real clue about it all.

OP - "I think it's at least possible, and more probable than finding alien life of non-earth origin. I'd say "no" when asked, though."

Disagree. It's more probable that seeding of somekind, somehow, happened IMHO.

Why does everyone assume the OP meant that humans originating from Earth?

While pure conjecture and the realm of science fiction, I see no reason to rule out the possibility that Earth is not the home of humanity and that we are some sort of lost colony ala battlestar galactica.

Cause that's what the OP stated.

Absolutley not. The fossil record would show that the civilization you're imagining existed.

Would it, though? We've barely explored a fraction of the surface of the earth, and there have been many cataclysms that could obscure and advanced civilization. What would it take, and how long, to wipe out all traces of our current civilization (we're not that far away from technology allowing us to colonize other planets, though we don't possess terraforming capabilities)?

Just to clarify, I don't believe there are humans on other worlds. I think it's highly, highly unlikely.

We've explored the vast majority of the land surface and we've found no signs of a past industrial society comparable to our own. Getting out of the gravity well requires vast amounts a concentrated energy which in turn requires a sophisticated organization and infrastructure. We know humans don't go back more than a few tens to hundreds of thousands of years (depending on where you want to draw the line between "human" and "proto-human). This has not been not sufficient time to destroy all evidence of a human civilization like our own.

THe fossil record disputes this. If we are a lost colony, we're a lost colony of bacteria and microbes, then. Because that's what we evolved from.

Because it was the OP.

you didn't RTFP did you?

No, but who is to say humanoids couldn't develop on other planets? It's pretty clear that life is sustained successfully on conditions like Earth's. In which case, animals will evolve, etc. and humans will eventually evolve on other planets.

It's kind of a mindfuck, because evolution is a concept applied to millions of years and developing life...we tend to connote these ideas with our earth, but do the rules here apply millions of light years away? We'll never know in this life.

yes , i think humans inhabit many earth like planets throughout the universe
not saying they came from earth, i don't think technology/laws of universe allow for interstellar travel

I think its more possible *are* the colonists from another planet and we don't know it something...but you can't really measure these things.

It would make a good movie though. Hell, I'd watch it. As long as it doesn't have to do with insect like aliens who have to deal with apartheid in South Africa.

We will not sure until that colonel from Twin Peaks (now a general, IIRC) finishes R&D on that giant metallic doughnut thing they dug up in Egypt years ago.

I searched. Could you post post a link of such a finding?

And were there sketches of insect like aliens on it? Were they aiming for South Africa and missed?

Yes - think of the tv show Farscape. They are humanlike -but not humans. They may look like us - but that's where the similarities end.

From an advanced civilization's viewpoint - we're not any more significant than a spec of dust on the floor of your house. And well..less advanced civilizations are still trying to learn how to make purple fires.

How can they be humans if they didn't come from Earth?

Conditions over billions of years would of had to be exactly the same for there to be humans on another planet..

Then there is the soul cube...
