Do you think the US will pass The Stop Online Piracy Act?

i don't think the Senate will pass it, anytime soon, regardless of what action the House of Reps. takes
 
I hope it does pass. When the DMCA passed people were not as intimately involved with technology as they are today. Take away grandma's youtube and let's see if people take action.

I want the worst of the government to be enacted until we can get the people to rise up and realize that democrats and republicans are ruining this country. We need to get them out and get people with sane ideas, people who will compromise and act in the best interests of everyone in. Sorry, I know, wrong forum.

The Chinese economy is partially based upon the business of stealing/reselling intellectual property. Go visit Shanghai or any other major city and see what you can buy on the street.
 
I hate the fact that the US's #1 priority is stopping piracy. Always passing all these laws and acts and shit. There are much worse things going on. Get over it, people pirate stuff, big deal. The pirates are the 99%, the victims of piracy are the 1%, and already have a lot of money, who cares.

If anything, it exposes, yet again, massive corruption within the government.

This time I think they're playing a dangerous game. Based on what I've read, the language is vague, making it ripe for abuse. No real oversight, no checks and balances. It doesn't pass the First Amendment test.

The problem with laws like this, dangerous as they are, they don't worry ordinary citizens. They're not directly affected by it. At least that's what they think. The EFF and the online community can scream until they're bluein the face. It won't make a lick of difference. Nobody takes the time to think over such a complex issue. They're worried about their job, their lifestyle, their economic security. A bad economy is the perfect time to get laws like this passed, because they fly under the radar. It's highly unethical but they know nobody will take notice. Apathy is what allows corrupt politicians to run amok in our democracy.

The US has shifted (much to our detriment) from a creation/production based economy to a rent based economy where wealth generation is not so much based on what one produces but on what one owns. Protecting IP is essential to protecting the profitability of the oligarchy. My modest prediction
(Hi Dave!) is that in the next couple years the US will threaten to or actually carry out military action for the purpose of protecting IP.
