I don't think the US should go after Iran.

They have a moderate elected president (although weak) and most of the population wants better relations with the US. Heck, many risked being beaten by police by holding a candlelight vigil for the perished in Sept 11. Iran still have problems (ayatollahs,etc..) but we should try to solve the issue diplomatically.

The few Iranians I know disapprove of the Khameini's and would like to see a regime change. I would not have been surprised if the Iranian youth were ones of the first peoples to take up American colors after 9/11. They are very much westernized and pro US.

Reasonable assessment except for the last sentence. Most of the world (and certainly Iranians) are NOT pro-US. Given a choice between the savagery of the 9-11 attackers (and their philosophy) versus the innocent people attacked; decent people side with the victims. I think the Saudi royals are a big pile but I prefer them to the cleric class. I also understand why many of the people of Saudi Arabia PREFER the clerics/fundamentalists to the Fahd clan.

What exactly do you mean by Westernized? Many people in many countries like Western clothes, music, and food but they don't discard the wonderful elements of their own culture. Democracy and rejection of theocracy or oligarchy are NOT western principles. The latter forms of government still predominate in the region but Western powers often ignored if not actively encouraged such oppressive regimes.
