Do you think the merge of On-line gaming is possible?

Do you think there will be a time when all 3 will be able to play together over the Internet together on one server?

I'm not big into console gaming, but I do love PC games (using mouse and keyboard).

I would love to be able to play someone over the internet that uses console with controller.

Something like Counter-Strike, Halo, Unreal, or anything first person shooting game.

I think the possibility is there, but either the software manufacturer or Steam needs to support all 3..

Probably not this gen, but I think they can make networks cross compatible next gen. However I doubt they'll make the PS3 and 360 compatible online, just for the fanboy problems that may arise online. There have been 1 or 2 games that the 360 and PC could play together on, but I'm not sure how well it worked. It was Lost Planet and some other one.

Not possible, too much money made in competition, PC is already 'integration of on-line gaming' but it still splinters into inefficient consoles anyway.

PC/360 online gaming was already tried with ShadowRun. It could have been a better game but the amount of work required balancing the game between the PC and 360 really hindered it.

I think they did it with Quake 3 (i think on dreamcast?)... i remember playing against console gamers on a server and absolutely destroying them

Console gamers

It's great until the console player gets auto aim like in Halo 2.

pc players will still destroy console gamers, even with their cheap ass auto aimers.

Ugh...with only one thumbstick, the Dreamcast controllers were horrible for FPS and TPS games.

I'm pretty sure it's possible to merge all of them but then there's a lot of issues. Unfair advantages, version differences. However, I'm thinking that the thing with PC and a console is that obviously a mouse and keyboard would destroy anything on a console. Be it a RPG, FPS, RTS or anything.

yup, they just can't turn as fast, all they can do is snipe

For any game requiring fast reaction time, it wouldn't be fair to have consoles vs. PCs. Console vs. console ought to be doable, but I think Sony and MS are too greedy to ever allow that.

But you know, even with games like MMORPGs, which don't require blazing fast reaction times, you've still got problems. Console players would be hindered by a gimped interface. How do you keep dozens of spells straight on a controller? On a PC it's easy... you just click them with the mouse. And there are tons of interface mods. But with a controller? Yikes.

I think the only game that would really be fair between consoles and PCs would be a truly turn-based game with no time limits and no need for precise aiming to hit moving targets. Either that or allow full interoperability, but only between people with the same control scheme. So KB/M console players can get mixed in with KB/M PC players, while there's a separate one for controller users (including those on Windows). Unfortunately, there'd be no way to truly enforce controller use for Windows users - I'm sure there'd be a way to spoof the system into thinking you're using one when you're actually on a keyboard and mouse, thus giving you an unfair advantage.

PC gaming is dead, why would us consolers want to play with the half dozen of them?

You, sir, are a moron

Sorry, I can't see that at work, on my computer meant for work.

If you'd like to install some software so we can voice chat about it, I'd be ok with that.
Your job is to troll ATOT?
