Do you think the ban on using cell-phones on airplanes should be lifted...

Pretty much like the title says. Assuming that cell phones are found not to harm airplane navigation, do you think people should be allowed to use their cell phones on planes?

its not that they harm the plane, its the the plane is going so fast that the phone signal has to be passed from tower to tower way to fast and fusks stuf up

and the last thing i wanna have to sit through is a 3 hour plane flight full of morons yapping on their damn cell phones

I dont see technically HOW people could use a cell phone... Seriously, you'd be travelling between cells quicker than anything and probably cross plenty of deadzones... Not to mention I'm not sure how high the cell ceiling goes.

Otherwise, I'd totally not want cell phones on airplanes simply due to those people who yap on them all the time at unreasonable levels... I sleep on flights.

yes, why not?

people will just have to be courteous like they are on a train or a bus etc. some people won't be, but thats the price of freedom

dont forget, you will then also be able to send texts and stuff too

hell no, people talk like loud idiots on cellphones, that would get annyoing fast

Exactly. I really don't want people trying to yap louder than the other 199 assholes doing the same thing inside the same tight confined space.

Oh, not to mention because of my above mentioned technical issues, your flight would quickly turn into "hello... HELLO?!" *redial* "Sorry I lost you... hello?!? HELLO?!" *cursing*

I"m unsure - I think planes are stressful enough for a lot of people (never bothered me, but I know it bothers others). Adding a layer of people on cell phones, some of whom are extremely rude and presumtuous about their phone use at the best of times, is a recipe for more airplane confrontations. People complaining about loud phne users, phone users 'shh'ing other passengers; in an enclosed space, it's just not a good idea.

Provide satelite internet, and people can conduct their business with email and/or IM. I believe some planes have satelite phones (if not, maybe they should) so let people who desperately need to make a phone call use that.

My idea of hell - being trapped in a middle seat forced to listen to
"and then she goes oh, noes, and I go No Way! and she goes yes way..."
"I tell you Marv, this girl could suck start a Harley..."
"Millie, I'm telling you, there was green pus oozing..."
"Come on Smoopy, say you love me, I know you can honey dumpling, I love you Smoopy, can't you say..."

Ackkk!

Hell no.

One thing that is nice about being out of service area for extended periods of time: PEACE.

Y'all should try it sometime. I'd get rid of the comps too but then I would cease to exist here not to mention all my work would grind to a screeching halt!

I wouldnt mind people text messaging but it would drive me crazy hearing them talk. I like to read on the plane. I hate just walking around with everyone on cell phones, being right next to them would be horrible.

I think they should issue super soakers filled with urine and everyone on a cell phone is fair game.

Sorry, hate cell phones

I say no, simply because flying sucks enough as it is, and the last thing I need is yet more noise, especially from people on their cellphone for 2 hours of the flight. If people can do without smokes on a plane they can do without their cell for a bit.

Hell no. We have enough idiots talking in restaurants, theaters, elevators etc. Don't let me get trapped next to some moron where I can't get away from them. Keep the ban for nothing else than to keep them from irritating an entire cabin of passengers.

Besides, at 36,000 feet and 600 MPH, I don't think you can get a cell phone to work in the air. Perhaps on take off and final approach when you're closer to the cell towers, but not at cruising speed and altitude.

cell phones never did interfere with navigation. the ban is from the FCC, not the FAA.

Dude, you guys cannot live without cell phones. Just try to live without them for endless hours in the airplane!

Last thing i need is some mom using her Nextel on speakerphone asking her kids what they want for dinner when she gets home.
I hope to god they never allow cell phones on the subway either (the last peaceful place left).
