Do you think the 6800 GT could fall to about $200ish in the next 6 months?

I think they might, depending on how ATI's R520/580 line launches, and how the 7800 GT launches.

Nvidia is bound to relase a 7600GT-equivalent this year, and that should push prices down on the entire 6xxx line.

You can buy a X800 XT PE refurb from ATI or Dell right now with a 3 year warrenty for $229. That is an excellent deal. I have even heard of some finding a 10% coupon for ATI's site on FW. I've even considered picking one up for a 2nd system.

No one knows for sure, but rumour is that ATI has lots of stock to get rid off, so they may just dump some of it this way. Refurbs are often used as a way to get rid of excess stock without disrupting any price guarantees that the big box stores have.

Even with the 7800GT...

7800GTX: $500
6800U: $460
6800GT: $350

The Ultra may (and should) drop in prices, but the 6800GT is already low enough as it is.

I don't think it is low enough. Look at the X800 XL, it's $250 now and just as good as the 6800 GT. Will it drop to $200 anytime soon? Maybe in a year.

Yeah, the x800xl doesnt have Sm3 though, silly. It will probably drop sometimes soon. Its not like they'll run out of stock any time soon. I mean, you can still get the FX series at newegg.

Omg, enough with SM3.0 already!

The lower I could see the 6800GT dropping is from 350 to 300, maybe 275. Not below 200.

Oh, and enough with SM3.0 already!

I think there was a computer business story about how much overstock ATI has been carrying in the last 12 months. Could be labeling overstock as refurb to sell. Dunno. Anyways I ordered the X800XT PE from ATI's webstore. That's a dam steal (in Canada at least).

When the retail channels run low on stock, the prices will only go up. Sadly.

Are you continuing this as a joke? Is this a running gag or something? It has to be.
Are you trying to be the "SM3.0" guy of Anandtech? I would be hard pressed to find a post of yours that doesn't mention it. Quit it. Although your not trolling, it's borderline.

ignore the penguin. SM3 will not benefit you all that much. It's nice if the 2 cards are comparable for a minimum of a price difference, but for $50-100, it's not worth it. For $350, you could get a X850XTPE on sale. worthless to get a ATI card huh?

Darn, and I was going to buy one aswell.

Just wondering - Would it be possible for Nvidia to release the 7600 GT and have a AGP solution for it quite soon? (under 9 months or so). If not, when do you think there will be an 7600 GT agp solution IF you think there will be one at all.

Well, you can get a Leadtek 6800GT PCIe at NewEgg for $299 with no MIR right now. I'm not seeing the 6800GT drop much in the next couple months, maybe to $250, but I just bought the Leadtek anyway. I hear it's a good OCer.

Just like the 9700Pro, 9800Pro, GeForce 3, GeForce 4 Ti 4600, just about every non ultra or supder duper high end flagship rarity that has been $399 intially and priced below a slightly better flagship version has made it to $200 or $199 in a retail store that I've witnessed. Then there's online places...

Next 6 months is being a little too hopeful, but you never know, if there's a new midrange 7xxx part, say a 7600GT that probably offers as good if not better performance than a 6800GT then it might be possible we'll see it in a $200-250 range.
