Do you think that surfing porn is really that unsafe?

I am just curious as to what you guys think of the subject. I constantly see people and websites claiming to not visit porn websites because they may harm your computer. Share please.

If you go to those fake porn sites that only link to other fake porn sites, then yes a lot of those have viruses.

why do you think macbooks are getting so popular these days. thats the major selling point for apple. look at porn without the worries.

There is definitely an element of truth to this. Just as walking around in a seedy area of town at night increases your chance of getting mugged, surfing the seedier sections of the Internet increases your chance of encountering malware. Of course, if your PC is fully patched/updated (and I don't just mean MS patches) and you are smart enough not to do something stupid like run an executable, you may stay safe unless you hit a nasty 0-day exploit.

Back when I fixed people's computers for profit, I had a repeat customer that always got spyware/viruses on his computer. What did he browse, almost exclusively? Porn sites, and not the 'good' ones that most tech literate people know of. I put firefox on his computer along with Kaspersky and spybot and ad aware (which at the time were the best free programs)...2 months later, he came right back. I then just wrote him instructions on how to format his computer himself.

Firefox, never had issues and ah... other people who use my computer surf a L-O-T of porn, I mean jesus christ...

My buddy, who I've told a million times to use firefox but who uses IE anyway, just got one of those really hard to remove viruses (along the lines of coolwebsearch).

Well I think Firefox can give you viruses as well. Is there a safer approach? How does one know if a website is safe? Are there recommended websites?

Don't go to shady porn websites that no one has ever heard of. Firefox alone won't protect you.

Yes, for the most part it will. If you use firefox, along with any kind of decent antivirus, anti-spyware, and noscript installed, and voila. No issues, no matter what sites you visit.

Notice how I said Firefox alone and you said Firefox, anti virus, anti spyware and noscript. Even then if you're a total idiot and install something you shouldn't you can get screwed.

True, but that can happen no matter where you surf. If you're that stupid, you're probably opening that email with the "pictures of Britney Spears, naked!" as well. 😉

Just remember not to download files 2MB videos called 'hot 16yo lesbians.exe' from Limewire.

Use reputable streaming Porntube clones (Free Porn On Us, Pornotube, Xtube, Redtube, Tube8, Eskimotube etc) and you're good to go. Foobies.com/Sexzool.com/Badgirlsblog.com for pics. Literotica.com for stories. Videobox.com and/or RealityKings.com if you have to pay.
