Racism always has been, and always will be, part of mankind. Its not a US issue. It's a human issue. It will never, ever, go away.

Well put.

+2. From an institutional standpoint, the US has made huge strides and I could argue yes for the most part. But as far as individuals are concerned, no, racism will always be with us.

But it can change itself over time....a lot. Sometimes for better and other times for worse.

If Obama is a failure a large portion of the country will claim it is due to racism as well.

I think you're a little too paranoid. I think the percentage will be the same as people who said Obama is muslim.

Former baseball player/manager Frank Robinson said blacks will achieve equality when they are hired and fired at the same rate as whites.

The way kids act in school where they attack all those who are different strikes me as indication that your statement cannot be true.

WTF? Of course they are taught. They are taught by their parents before they even begin a school career.

A new girl started at our school when I was 8. She became popular pretty fast, was intelligent and soon became one of the class. She was from Ethiopia and I didn't see anything different about her apart from having a killer tan.

This was in White middle class southern Britain in 1980. I had not been taught to hate people of other races, so I treated her no different to any other 'new kid'.

Not until there are 43 black Presidents in a row <_<

There always going to be the us vs them mentality. The way that gets overcome is to include all the races in the us and have something else in the them category. From what I could tell, we've made great progress since the 60s and now racisims is more for an individual problem than one of society.

In as much as we can win the war on terrorism--yes, racism in America is over.

Prejudice and freedom-fighters are another story.

quite the opposite, according to Reverend Lowery. Racism is so bad we will see separate drinking fountains soon.

Well yes, if you will pass out some of what you're smoking.

I am not sure what you are refering to. I started the thread response to a post, see below, by Modular in another thread:

"I think that the real question is this: now that he's been elected, can the "minorities" stop crying racism and can it be as much of a non-issue to them as it is to the Caucasian populace of the United States? Or is it too instilled in them through their families and activists like the "Reverend" and his cronies? There will be no regime change when it comes to race in this country until those who claim racism actually let it go and realize that its over. But that means that they would have to find a new way to identify themselves...let's see if it's possible, although I highly doubt it."

So that means Chris Rock, George Lopez, the "Kings of Comedy", Carlos Mencia, etc are no longer doing their act?

Then it will just based on something besides skin color - tall or short, slim or fat, curly hair/staright hair, big/liitle nose, regional accent when speaking etc.

One of my friends/clients is a Black guy from the US working in Ethiopia. He says he faces a lot of discrimination from the (Black) Etiopians because they think he looks like a (Black) Nigerian. Go figure.

In one word: No

To explain:
Humanity will always seek to segregate parts of humans into another group. Look at this election, and Obama being "black". How many times have you heard MSM say bi-racial which is the accurate term? Rarely, if ever. Where are women/asian/hispanic/etc presidents? This will not end racism, and minorities will still say that "whitey" is keeping them down.

Minorities may have less evidence to say "it's because we are xxxxxx", but they still will.

That's probably because 'black' and 'bi-racial' (and really all racial designations) are made up terms that don't actually have a concrete definition. As I said in another thread, if you walked down the street and saw Obama without knowing him, and someone asked you what race he was, you would almost certainly say 'black'. Therefore, he's black.

Word.

However I do think his election is a manifestation of increased racial equality and progress.

It has to with our simian origins, violence and distrust of other tribes is common.

Obviuosly you haven't read the awful things said about the guy afterwards by whites. One guy said America is no longer America because a black guy got elected. I am so glad in the next 7-10 years minoritys will dominate the population. When the face of the USA is all "gray" maybe we'll finally all get along.

I just saw this. Very good point. I do believe that certain minorities think racism can ONLY be directed toward them. :(
