Do you think that Mr Obama being POTUS represents the end of US racism?

I have read the in a number of different forms that a Presdent Obama represents the end of US racism. And that minorities will have nothing to complain about.

What do you think about this/

naw just a new chapter.

hopefully I don't hear the word reperations...

EDIT: Wow that is a NO it took what a few minutes for another of Obama's Black Pastors to call whites racists.

Reverend Lowery's Benediction prayer/speech:

When Whites embrace what is right...

That is just plain offensive. Get off the stage you hack! God's calling and he wants you to re-read the part about judgement.

Racism always has been, and always will be, part of mankind. Its not a US issue. It's a human issue. It will never, ever, go away.

No. It may never go away but it can be diluted over time. Promising signs younger people are far less likely to be racists.

People are not born racist but are taught.

Word.

However I do think his election is a manifestation of increased racial equality and progress.

Tis true.

That being said the procession of all the "VIPs" was VERY white.

The way kids act in school where they attack all those who are different strikes me as indication that your statement cannot be true.

"I think that the real question is this: now that he's been elected, can the "minorities" stop crying racism and can it be as much of a non-issue to them as it is to the Caucasian populace of the United States? Or is it too instilled in them through their families and activists like the "Reverend" and his cronies? There will be no regime change when it comes to race in this country until those who claim racism actually let it go and realize that its over. But that means that they would have to find a new way to identify themselves...let's see if it's possible, although I highly doubt it."

Racism will never be dead in America, whether it be from blacks or whites. I do however think it is time that blacks move on, and quit holding on to the past as an excuse for failure. Hopefully Obama represents a generational shift in black leaders, away from the bitterness espoused by the old guard who emerged from the civil rights movement, which is both justified and highly unproductive. Obama and Michelle demonstrate that if blacks get their own house in order, they can achieve anything that any other race can.

Agreed and even if you exterminated all members of every race except for one, the remaining race would find something else to be prejudice about within the only race... like those left handed people!

Institutional racism perhaps, but otherwise blackangst1 has hit the nail on the head. It will never go away between humans. (...and yes, that is a two way street in any direction)

I think it could get worse in that every time someone says something bad about Obama it will be because that person is racist.

If Obama is a failure a large portion of the country will claim it is due to racism as well.

racism is not over and will never end. White people will always see Blacks as "different" and Black people will always see whites as "different"

Just like men and women will always be seen as different because we look different. Fact of life.

But just because racism will still happen rarely does not mean it is an excuse any longer. I never want to hear cries about poor black people who do nothing in life(same for whites/hispanics...) you are what you make of yourself, and today proves that fact.

What about in 1000 years when, presumably, the ease of travel and open borders will result in everyone being a sort of brown-ish colour due to centuries of breeding?

well then we would all be the same. But until that time, there will be some sort of racism. And like you said it happens with all types of people, not just color. We like to pretend it is only racism, but there arejudices all over...obesity/hispanics/blacks/whites/women...

Im sorry, but this argument was shattered when Oprah became a mogul. Not only is she black and female, she came from a background most people could not endure.

Oh and how about Clarence Thomas? Theres alot of examples.
