Do you think terrorists will strike on 9/11/02 or 9/10/02?

Me and my dad were talking about this (on the eve of our swearing in ceremonies) and he kinda convinced me that terrorists would prefer to strike on 9/10, and possibly later in the day (like peak rush hour or something) in an attempt to "disrupt" 9/11 remembrance and memorial ceremonies the next day. Also, the 2001 attacks happened on a Tuesday and the day of the week may hold more significance than the date number (since Islam doesn't use the Gregorian calendar.)

Now my question is regarding the lunar calendar that is used in the Muslim world. According to that calendar, what would the one-year anniversary be? Does anyone know?

PS: On an interesting note, both me and my dad predicted the flood of global terror alerts going out this week (actually we thought it would happen earlier) because we thought that if there was an attack being planned, whoever was doing it would leak bogus info in an attempt to overwhelm the intelligence community. Since this is now happening, I think an attack is being planned and I just hope someone stops these guys red-handed so they can look forward to a long time in a federal "pound-me-in-the-ass" prison! I also think that if there is an attack it won't be in America but it will be a slew of American targets abroad.

PPS: Remember it never hurts to be cautious--avoid bridges, tunnels, big buildings and federal buildings whenever possible this week.

BAH! I'm not going to change any of my travel plans this week, or any week. I'm not scared of any damned terrorists. That's the whole point! Being scared. Running around staying away from this or that is being afraid. That's giving in to the terrorists. They want us afraid.

Well, I say screw 'em. If I see any terrorists and have a chance, I'll kick their asses. I won't be afraid of them. The passengers of Flight 93 weren't afraid. The NYFD and the NYPD weren't afraid. Well, maybe they WERE afraid, but they didn't let it stop em!

'nuff said.

More power to you bud. I wasn't talkin' bout being 'fraid, but being cautious. Being afraid means avoiding everything altogether and staying at home and not turning on the TV. Being cautious is different. I guess what I wanted to say was "be alert" and think about any weird activities or whatever you might have seen and think of ways you can STOP something from happening.

Well we're not under amber alert (or was it meadow green....seashore blue?) so I doubt it.

9/11 corresponds to Aug. 31st according to the lunar calendar. That already came and went.

And same here. I doubt (but don't want to jinx) that anything's going to happen anyway...

I think they made their point for now. It will be a couple of years until the next major attack. Hopefully we can totally shut them down before then. They only threats right now are lone looneys doing truck bombings, shootings, dynamite, overseas embacy stuff. Still really bad, but not full-scale 9/11 type stuff.

That seems to be about the consensus. Hopefully, though, it doesn't even happen on a small scale. However, I will be taking the day off. Since I live in the D.C. area, things could get ugly if something were to happen. But, my reason for taking the day off is out of respect - not fear. There are going to be several memorial services and I feel this will be a good way to give respect to those who lost their lives during last September 11th.

I don't think that the terrorists will attack, but I'm pretty sure that the US will go after Iraq on 9/12. Bush wants to do it, and maybe he's right for it (I don't have all the information he does, so I can't really say), but you can be sure he'll be looking to ride the wave of anger that will be resurrected in people after they watch the CNN/CBS/NBC/ABC/FOX (When Terrorists Attack!!!) specials about 9/11. Everyone will be nearly as emotional in 2 days as they were just about a year ago, and another military strike needs public support. Heck, Bush may even time it so that CNN's programming will go something like this:

"...and those were the events of 9/11. May God rest their souls. BREAKING NEWS! US military involved in strikes in Iraq..."

Apparently Bush met with Chretien today to discuss the Iraq situation. I predict US military action shortly after 9/11 and Bush riding another emotionally garnered 90% approval rating.

Nope, they know what will happen, and they know we are on the offensive side this time...

Okay, someone enlighten me...WHY must we go to Iraq? I mean seriously, what are we trying to do? Why create more instability in the region? Isn't Bush goin to the U.N. to try to convince them to take action first? I'm not a big fan of these unilateral pre-emptive strike things (well...I guess the Six Days War was kinda cool...Israel rocked that one!)

Okay, someone enlighten me...WHY must we go to Iraq?
Because, there's a couple of reasons:

1) Ties between Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein have been detected.

2) Iraq has been playing some silly games with the weapons inspection teams that have been trying for the past several years to do what they have been assigned to do. Unfortunately, Saddam Hussein has been creating a lot of difficulties by getting in the way of the inspections.

So, now, we must attack. Can you say CARPET BOMB?

Iraq + unknown weapons + possible Osama ties + memories of desert storm = increased chance of attack on US and/or Israel.

I suspect that someone will attempt to carry out an attack, although not on the scale of what we tragically saw a year ago. It will be thwarted, though. :)

So on the whole, there won't be anything that will happen today or tomorrow I don't think.

Yeah, well who thought in their right mind 4 planes would be hijacked in a 60 minute period and all systematically flown into specific targets on 9/11/01? Certainly not me, or the rest of the world.

Fact is, you can't say yes or no. The world is different now. Terrorism is a very real and current threat to everyone. I guess it always was, and we just didn't realize it.
