Do you think Saddam would nuke his own country?

I wonder if he already has a weapon of mass destruction hidden away in Iraq somewhere perhaps burried underground. If the U.S invades and has a large ground force in Iraq, Saddam can just detonate such a weapon within Iraq with our troops inside. Then we wouldn't be able to make much of a fuss about it because it's a valid millatary attack on a millatary force and if it is a nuke he set it off in his own territory.

hmm...
probably as a truly last result, I think Hussein loves himself more than he hates the United States and it's hard to be the Saddam Hussein that he is used to being when your country is under radioactive glass. Why would he nuke the one of the few countries that wouldn't arrest him as soon as he stepped on their soil?

I'm just putting myself in his shoe. What would a mad man do? Suppose I do have a weapon of mass destruction. I can't use it on the U.S army because they're out of range. I can't target civilians because that's a terrorist act. I hate the U.S because they've been out to get me for the past decade. What be perfect is if an advancing U.S army went inside Iraq, I detonate the weapon within my own territory crippling the U.S ground force. True I'd be nuking parts of my own country, but I'm a madman so I don't care, and I don't mind killing my own people at all. The U.S can't cry about it because I didn't nuke one of their city with civilians inside. It was an attack that only took out a millitary target.

If they U.S attacks Iraq this time, how likely is it that something like this will happen? If we place tens of thousands of ground troops in Iraq, they might be walking right into a trap.

Gas, absolutely (he has done it before with the Kurds who live in Iraq)

Nukes... likely
Result if used:
Cruise missiles with nuclear warheads launched from cruisers in the gulf, effectively turning the place into a parking lot. Just hope it doesn't go that far.

I just realised this but then I thought about the oil in Iraq, if Iraq was a parking lot, I imagine that getting to the oil would be a lot harder. Maybe Hussein knows that we won't retaliate with nukes, atleast to a signifigant extent.

- The damage to us would already have been done
- We would not be able to retaliate with nuclear strikes because he did not hit our country with a nuclear strike.

Unlike what happen in Afghanistan, where a few marines were placed on the ground to command airstrikes, taking Iraq would involve
placing thousands of ground troops within Iraq where they might be setting on a gaint landmine.

the problem is if he does that, we cannot retaliate with nukes. What would be our excuse?

-They target our millitary so we turn their whole country into a parking lot.
If we do that then we would be viewed as the terrorist

-Use of Nuclear weapon is cruel and unusual
So we in turn do more of the same?

-Saddam is a monster who used nuclear weapon on us and in turn nuked his own people.
So we in turn nuke more Iraq civillians for him?
