Do you think Rand Paul has a good chance at beating Obama in 2012?

Does Rand have a chance at beating B Hussein?

  • Yes, definitely

  • No, but only because he couldn't win the GOP nomination

  • He'd easily win the GOP nomination, but would definitely lose to Obama in the general election

  • Rand has a snowball's chance in hell of getting the GOP nomination and beating Obama

Poll time! I think he does, although I'd prefer his father. I'm just a little skeptical that Rand isn't as principled as his father. That may change over time once he has a voting record.

Before anyone says no by illogic of "he'll have only been in the Senate for 2 years in 2012", remember that Obama was only a senator for a few years.

I think he won't have enough Senate Experience to convince voters. Otherwise, I am sure he would win. His standing as a certified eye glasses doctor should show his qualifications but people are leery on the right of scientist types. He'll get my vote if he wants to go back to gold and eliminate the Fed.

I answered "yes, definitely" The economy won't be better and the only way Obama has better than a snowball's chance in hell of winning is if he starts another war. I also think the Republicans from last time are too weak (except Dr. [Ron] Paul) to have a chance at the nomination, plus there doesn't seem to be any newcomers except maybe Allen West. But a Senator would beat a House Member.

I don't really know him. So I'll just talk generalities.

The GOP wants to win elections, not hold values. They'll run away from him due to "electability". Anyone that wants to stop the gravy train is a threat to not only the Democrats but the Republican establishment as well. That's two strikes against being nominated.

General public also wants the gravy train, in the form of handouts. I don't know how someone campaigns against "the people" and their free ride.

he hasn't won a single campaign, ever, in his entire life, and you think that he's not only going to win the Republican nomination but also go on to beat one of the best campaigners in modern history? 🙄

Rand Paul has no chance of winning the republican nomination, and even if he did, would have even less of a chance at beating Obama.

true or false, Rand Paul's public image is now of a racist demagogue who would veto civil rights legislation as president. maybe he'll win his senate race, but he's damaged goods and will never rise above that level.

I don't know. Maybe he will become board certified to have risen about that level. That would do it for me.

At any rate Anarchist, you can maybe use this thread as an indication of your political insight and acumen. If Paul wins you're a genius, but if not, do us all a big favor and stop having any opinions, please. A person with unreal beliefs can be dangerous, to himself, and to others.

I love how the OP is the only person who thinks yes 😀

Republicans don't want him because he's not crazy enough. In the last election, 2 of the republican candidates were hardcore religious (Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee), one is an exact replica of Bush (McCain), and one was Ron Paul who finished last. It's pretty clear at this point that you're not going to win the republican nomination unless you're older than 9000 and make a bunch of crazy promises to people who are insanely religious. The religious thing is so bad that when John McCain said something about believing evolution, he had to backpedal a little bit and say God was an important part of this evolution. If he didn't say that, people would have voted against him. That's how bad the situation is right now.

Dr. Paul may be able to run a successful senatorial primary campaign in Kentucky, but he seems to lack the political sense to negotiate a national campaign, especially the Snake Pit that the Republican Presidential campaign has become.

Can you really picture Dr. Paul surviving the South Carolina primary?

As a Democrat, all I can say is Please! Please! Please don't throw me in that briar patch!

The current crop of Righties might be more than a little lost, reduced to whining, sniping and mere obstructionism by the consequences of their own actions, but they're not completely delusional. Close, maybe, but not completely.

with his views on civil rights, it might be the only primary that he wins.
Dr. Paul's civil rights views may equip him to pander to the state's "conservative" base, but the Republican establishment will shred him with innuendo.

IIRC, Lee Atwater once said that Chicago and Washington, D.C. were merely training camps compared to Columbia.

Its a premature question, first old Rand has to win the general election in Kentucky, and he may not have a snow balls chance in hell of being a US Senator.

As a eye doctor he knows what seeing is, his problem is, open mouth insert foot, he flunks the hearing part of human perception. A blind man may fail to see he is an idiot, but even a blind man can't fail to hear his idiotic statements.

He choose the wrong profession, he should have become an audiologist.

Better just to have remained a physician.
