Do you think PROFESSORS can usually give you a C- (PASSING GRADE) if you beg them???

well i don't really have a relationship with the professor. the only time i've spoken to him throughout the whole semester was monday when i asked for an old test and today when i asked to talk to him :) i was going to speak to him then and there but he was on the run to his car. he gave me his # and i guess imma have to call him up (which is probably easier than begging in person).

considering all the sh!tty thing that's gonna happen to me academically and financially, wouldn't a professor have the pity to just pass someone with a C-? It's not like a C- looks good either.

what do u guys suggest on how i go about doing this? call him at night after he had a good grubbin? call him in the morning when he's refresh? he seems like a pretty laid back professor. he cusses a lot, talks a lotta sh!t about the system, and talks a lotta sh!t in general with a group of his favorite white students (too bad i'm not in it :( ) in class.

Visit the professor during his office hours, and explain what's up. Most professors are willing to throw out a low test score, given the following conditions:

1) You have a damn good excuse for failing the exam in the first place. Health problems, death in the immediate family, etc.
2) You study your ass off, and nail the final exam and/or the final project. Prove to the processor that you know your stuff, and you'll get your C.

does your university not allow pass/fail? I was in a similar situation (switching majors, class didn't matter any more) and a prof was kind enough to bump me up to a C- (pass). He prolly wouldn't have done it if I was taking the course for a letter grade. Of course, I had a somewhat good relationship with him, and the circumstances of my bad grades were understandable from his viewpoint.

He might give you a C-... but don't be suprised if he wants some ass for that grade. j/k

One friend of mine took calc 2 his first semester. He tried all the time, got tutors, and talked to the prof. after every class session, yet he still couldn't manage to grasp some of the concepts. He couldnt drop it because he would loose his full time student Status. Final time came, and he was getting a 30% in the class. He failed the final, but the prof. gave him a C-. Why? Because he showed the extra effort and the willingness to learn. Unless you show that to your prof, I doubt you are gonna get anything.

whoa, in your friend's case, how can the professor justify giving him a passing grade? calculus 2 is a stepping stone to higher math so it is CRUCIAL he understands the material. i think his professor is totally wrong and unjustified.

Hoeboy: Aren't most math classes in college graded on a curve? I remembering in some of my math classes, 40% would be the top score. So, 30% might not be that bad.

Anyways, back to your case, I'd definitely do it face to face. It's a lot harder to turn someone down when they're right in front of you. I know it's not the most comfortable feeling talking to someone that has so much power over your academics (look at PhD candidates!!), but it'll definitely improve your chances.

what school do you go to? Maybe fudging grades happen at some schools and not others. It might depend on the reputation of the school. I think at schools like Berkeley or UCLA there is almost no chance of that happening.

Man, Engineering Economics is the easiest class of all them engineering classes. How can you be failing? The only way in failing this class would be not attending it and not doing any of the homeworks. Its just graphs you have to match to get the answer. You dont even have to calculate anything other than interest rates. begging isnt the way to do it man but maybe if you could ask for extra credits or study hard for your final exam. good luck.

I still remembered my engineering economics class average for one of the tests were 93 out of 100. class size were 30+. If the teacher had curved the grading scale, people with 85 would get a C Bhahahahahaha...
