"Less" could mean anything from being a loser, unintelligent, lazy, incompetent etc. Whereas "More" means accomplished, intelligent, hard working and generally competent.

Of course there are any number of variables playing into how you judge someone. For the purpose of this poll, assume you know nothing about someone except whether they have a four year degree(BA or BS).

For me, not having a degree is irrelevant to an evaluation of a person. Yet knowing someone does have a degree tends to make me think more of them.

I do not have a four year degree.

i have always found it funny when i worked with people with degrees, i always made what they made or more. plus, it would depend on the degree. i think a chemist or engineer is one thing, where the degree might actually be something important, but liberal arts, business (mba) and the such, not so much. Now, doctors are also a different case. vets and doctors usually have done a couple of degrees that mean something more then i went to a party school and got a paper.

but, i usually don't care either way. but if they have a BA, they are probably worthless.

yes, no

If someone has a degree, at least I know they tried but that doesn't mean I respect them. If you don't have a degree, than I just despise you for not trying. And being poor is not an excuse. I know plenty of people who have poor families yet still manage to get into top schools and find a way to pay for them.

I said the opposite of you. (Yes to thinking less of them if they do not, but not thinking more of them if they do). Having a degree just shows you have some ability to get it done. Nothing special. (If you've done something productive with yourself instead of getting the degree, that can easily more than make up for it. e.g. starting your own business, traveling the world, etc..)

I degree can be gotten by anyone with a half a working brain. With all the communitity colleges putting out degrees like theres no tomorrow, then their are the shadier places. What I think of someone is how well they take care of their family. If as upper management great, good for him. If it is digging ditches for the water dept of the local govt, good for him he taking care of what important, a guy runs a local repair shop and spins wrenches all day, gets the job done. I am not going to thing less of someone because they did not get a degree. I do have a BS in Comm Systems Management - yeah it was an odd degree. No I am becoming a cop. Figure that one out.

No. I've met many people that have degrees that are idiots and many that don't that are very intelligent.

I respect someone who's worked to better themselves. Whether that's through school, work experience, or learning it on their own, all of it is worthwhile. Just getting a piece of paper doesn't mean anything. It's what they've made of themselves, no matter how they did it.

No and No
There could be many reasons why somebody didn't get a degree. I'm not gonna go and judge them unless I have to.
Similarly, I don't think a degree by itself is that great an indication of someone's worth. Frankly degrees are dime a dozen. So no to that either.

I would have to agree actually. I can't stand people who can't listen to an opinion without bringing out their defenses and immediately go on the offensive.

A lack of a degree doesn't mean ignorance. You can be successful with or without a degree. Getting a degree greatly increases the monetary possibilities in a structured corporate environment. I've met many more ignorant people 'with' degrees though than 'without'. Street knowledge can go a long way sometimes, especially if you can parlay it into business success. In my opinion the knowledge gained through education - mostly unused and forgotten as time goes by, doesn't translate into a more cultured higher intelligent being per-say, but it does help to maintain the desire for continued learning rather than remaining stagnant educationally. I have the same respect for both non college educated, as well as degreed professionals.

Accountants/Financial-Budget Analyst.

The accountants are not really accountants, they brought them in under 501s just so they could get the job. Whatever

Nope. it'd depend more on what they're doing with their life.
Bill gates didn't finish his degree.
Some people don't need a degree to get on top of things. In fact, I might have a little more respect for people who find their way in life without taking the standard route.

No, but I question why someone doesn't get a degree. Many people with degrees are idiots but it opens more doors for your future. Why keep them closed?

That might require a slight chuckle, or the FTW sarcasm award.

True mugs, but my reply is to the OP's question and not a broader discussion on the subject. :)

True. Deeds done incorrectly, lead to knowledge if you're willing to learn from them. Knowledge of deeds done incorrectly or the intel of seeing another do things right can lead to a common sense intelligence. That requires zero degree in anything. The application of such in a monetary driven society is harder without a degree than with, but one can absolutely bypass any competitive performance of a degreed person by sheer will and common sense applied to a series of critical decisions, personal and business.

I have a BS in BS :)

i don't any less with someone without a degree or anymore if someone has one. I just think that its everyone's luck that they're in the position they're in. College isn't for everyone. As long as that person is doing something with their life and staying out of trouble, all the best to them.
