... playing a straight guy, when the next door neighbor was playing a hard-core anti-gay Marine that was secretly gay?

No sh*t Sherlock. I'm asking if you think it was wierd for him to be acting as such in that situation. Thank you.

... You understand actors pretend to be characters? It's their fucking job. He didn't have to take the job if he cared one way or another.

Like, not at all? Kevin is playing some normal straight guy, but the other guys is playing some weird gay guy? You don't even think he thought twice about it lol?

I wouldn't say all that normal. He was all after some young illegal high school chick as an older middle-aged man. ...so not as ironic as you assume.

Like someone else said, if anything maybe he found it ironic. But I dunno, I don't think he necessary thought it weird, even given his orientation. Bfd. Like others have said, acting.

I have never, EVER, seen a more dense pack of mofo's than on the ATOT forum.

"Hey guys, do you think KS felt a little weird playing a normal straight guy, when the guy opposite him, who kills him, is playing a psychopathic gay guy?"

"Derp derp derp its acting."

"Hey guys, do you think actor X felt a little wierd playing a dad who saw his son get murdered in front of him, when in real life his son was murdered in front of him?"

"Derp derp derp its acting."

So freaking dense you cannot even have an intellegent conversation lol.

Forgive me for being dense, but how are these comparable? If an actor had his son murdered in front of him and went on to play a character that experiences a similar event, that could obviously be a difficult experience for him. The situation with Kevin Spacey isn't so cut and dry, unless I'm missing something. Did something occur in Kevin Spacey's "real life" other than sexual experiences with men? Are you suggesting that Kevin Spacey is a psychopath with the capacity to murder straight men when they reject his mistaken advances in real life?

Or is the "weird" thing the contrasting sexual orientation of the characters versus the actors in their real lives? If that's really all you're highlighting, then I have to agree with everyone else: it's acting. I see no reason why playing a character would make an actor feel uncomfortable, despite the parallels or irony when comparing the character to their real life experiences, outside of extreme situations, like in your second example. In situations such as those, I'd imagine an actor would simply pass on the role or work through their discomfort if they're wanting to take part in some sort of cathartic spiritual journey.

Please give us some more context. What makes the characters in American Beauty so weird, from your perspective?

Yes, i suppose he could of felt weird about playing that part, but he did take the role so i (and probably everyone else) assume he didn't feel weird enough about playing that character, if at all.
