Do you think ATI/NV will drop the Geforce/Radeon brands someday?

I wish they would come up with new brand names for their cards, it's not nearly as exciting to go from a Series X to a Series X+1 than to replace your Geforce with a Supernova or something like that.

It's seems so boring to think that in 15 years I'll be buying a Radeon UTHD X9780 or a Geforce GTXXX 101 or something like that.

Probably not any time soon. Brand recognition is huge, and they've both spent a lot of money to make you recognize their brand.

...then again, Intel dropped the Pentium moniker so it's possible.

Eventually they'll run out of GT, GTX prefixes, etc and all the numbers will be used up. That's when I imagine the new branding will arrive. If they named their cards like cars are made, then you could have 2010 GeForce 1 series, 3 series and 5 series for example. This way, when a new gen arrives, it will be 2011 GeForce. The problem is nV would rebadge 2008 cards as 2010 and then the jokes would never stop :)

I wish they'd have an easier to understand model heirarchy.

One would assume that a higher number model than another would be better, when in fact sometimes it's worse.

I understand there are 7, 8, 9 series GeForces and there are equivalents... but it can get kinda messy sometimes.

For ATI example say...

5750 = yellow color code for budget/low end
5850 = orange color code for gamer/medium end
5970 = red color code for enthusiast/high end

and then there are of course inbetweens, like
5830 orange but rename it to 5830-L1 for lower-tier 5800 series
5850 orange but rename it to 5850-L2 for medium-tier 5800 series
5870 red = 5870-L3 for higher-tier 5800 series

and of course have a guideline for all this stuff on the box and website
