I'd be surprised if she's actually capable of graduating with a liberal arts degree, let alone computer science.

Not my fault you majored in "everything you need to know to teach 5th grade" aka "majored in 'how to pass 5th grade'" aka "liberal arts".

ouch!!

This is stemming from my immigrant topic, but anyways, do you guys think it's possible, if they try hard enough, that anyone can get through a four year college with a degree in say, comp sci? or if that isn't their thing then maybe, economics, etc etc the list goes on and on.

What's you take and why?

The answer is no. Some people are not gifted in a given area and they would reach their limit of comprehension at some point. I will say that desire and effort will go along way in getting a borderline person a degree.

I will say most people with enough effort could get thru non science degrees without too much problem. Science degrees tend to have much harder material that requires more effort and intelligence.

That pretty much sums it up. The university I go to has a big teaching department, 85% make A's. 12% make B's and rest is scattered C,D,Fs. Very few people do poorly as an education major. The science dept at the same school, only 30%(if that) makes A's.

So does the education dept have better teachers(as they claim), or is the material just harder and more abstract in the area of science? My bet is science is harder.

Oh sh1t I forgot to answer you question (see reading comprehension problems) Yes 100% of the military academy grads graduate in four years in very technical fields like engineering. Also they have many more extracurricular activities you never have to worry about going to your state school.

But I dont think the military academy is average sampling of general population intelligence.

Can ANYONE get through a four year college? Yes

As a Comp sci major? No

Peoples intelligence lie in different places. What may seem trivial to you (and a whole lot of other people 😉 ) may not be so trivial to others. But then again, what they consider trivial may not be so trivial to you. For instance, I have no problem understanding anything science/math based, but when it comes to something like art or history...watch out...😕

Give them the right major, and ANYONE with a high school diploma can get through a four year college. 🙂
