Do you think Anandtech is getting stale?

I don't know how the mods will react to this, but personally I think AT is getting a little crusty. Articles and features used to come out every day, or every other day. Now, there's one thing every week or week and a half. It has been 8 days since the Inside Intel artcle came out. While nice, once you read it...there's no compelling reason to come back to AT except for the forums. Hell, Tom's has more content than AT has had in the past couple months. That says a lot, considering how crapalicious Tom's has become. What's the reason for this lack of new content?

I'd love to see some editorials personally. I'd like to hear what Anand and other writers on the site think about the hardware industry as a whole, or a certain piece of hardware. As it stands, no longer do we see reviews for much new hardware or even the bi-weekly price guides. I've got a lot of respect for the guys at AT, but it is waning.

No content = fewer hits = more ads = less content = even fewer hits = less revenue for ads = financial problems = dead site.

or something like that...

Anyway, what would you guys and girls like to see on AT? Do you agree that there isn't crap for new content on this site? What should be done? Any suggestions we could give the AT guys?

I'm all for editorials and some more opinionated stuff. That's the stuff I like, but I also like in-depth reviews (less benchmarks...they're all BS anyway), but fewer reviews on consumer electronics (cameras, console gaming, etc...there's already plenty of sites for that).

if you feel this way, send a supporting email to Anand. You probably don't know what it means to work 16-20 hour days but I assure you it gets lonely, tedious, and one looses motivation, especially without continued support and reinforcement. Anand is experiencing a lifestyle and if my observations of humans are correct, a personality change. This likely will have an effect on what you see on anandtech. Plus, I remind you that to the best of my knowledge, this past week was midterms for them + valentine's day.

It's not easy to live an extraordinary life, no matter how easy it may seem to the rest of us ordinary folk. If you want to see more, ask for it and show support not only by clicking on banners or paying the subscription but also a kind word expressing gratitude and sincere appreciation. I suspect that's what keeps Anand doing this. if he loses this, he may sell out and move on, as I suspect will have to happen eventually or at least a shift of power and maintenance of a stake in the corporation, likely at the strategic leadership level.

I do agree though, for whatever reasons, there has been a change.

The mobs are restless.

BTW, I agree about the consumer electronics reviews... the forums here cover those
things a 100% better since dozens of opinions of a particular product is always
seconds away.

It's cyclical, I think. Yes, compared to the site from a year ago, it appears to be stale; I would say, though, that it is magnitudes better than it was three years ago. There seems to be a pattern, which, in turn, seems to be related to the general computing market (which I have felt has been a bit stale recently) and, of course, the amount of spare time Anand has left at the end of the day.

Yah check out the FAQs. I had forgotten about them for a month or so a little while ago and then I was there and there was a ton of new ones. So much stuff to learn just there.

Half the people in OT could probably care less about anything computers anyway.

The thing I like best about the reviews and how to's that Anand and his staff put up is that they are cleanly laid out,
easy to sort thru. I also like and appreciate that a tutorial often accompanies a piece of hardware ,making it easier for both newbies and professionals alike to get themselves up to speed on the latest in tech.


Yeah, like everything else this issue falls under the "more principal" the reviews are great and of course I'd like more but hands down one review here is frequently worth a dozen anyplace else so I'll just wait ,anticipating the next load of goodies Anand and his people put up.

I surely miss the old Hot Deal forum.

As for the content of the main site getting stale, there's really nothing much Anand and company can do about it. For one, there isn't really much out there to report everyday.

Editorial sounds like a plan to me though. I will be looking forward to see that on AnandTech main.

I wouldn't mind seeing a server farm update.... Those articles amaze me. I would imagine right about now, he may be thinking about downsizing a little, but i would still like to see what the server farm status is....

There are certainly fewer articles on the main site, but they are of excellent quality. It's not worth visiting every day, but when there is something new you know it's going to be a good read. Unlike most other computer review sites that just churn out news releases and steal each other's content.

ATOT though is certainly getting stale. The same threads over and over.
