Do you think Anand has given thought to becoming a distributor so that we can get cheep stuff? Or is this illegal?

<< The markup on computer hardware is typically so low already that I doubt you'd see any difference between a group buy price and one of the larger internet vendors. >>

That doesn't seem right in the least.

chansen is right in that many items you WON'T be able to get much or any cheaper at all, but at the same time you have the prospect of DEEP discounts on many other items... notably memory and video cards. A few people here actually even have connections with large distributors or even the Manufacturer's and get items as cheap as 60% retail... I'm not going to mention names though... if they want to step forward however, then that's their choice

I agree with Shazam. The main thing Anand has to offer is his objectivity, and if he gets involved in any way in selling products he reviews, his credibility is gone. If Anand's credibility is gone, then soon the whole site becomes nothing but yet another reseller web site that you can find by the tens of thousands.

The money Anand makes from ads is way more than he could ever make as a reseller and the reason why is that people trust what he says about products. If people thought his integrity was compromised for the sake of a few bucks made on some cheezy components, they wouldn't come back here and there would be fewer hits and therefor less ad money. There would also be fewer people coming here to buy 'in bulk' and he'd lose out there, too.

Becoming involved in sales of product is a lose-lose situation for Anand, and US!

Okay Anand aside let's talk about the subject at hand... Somehow I think this "idea" of mine will only continue to be an idea and nothing will happen unless someone takes action! Anyone have any ideas? I certainly don't want this plan to die down and become nothing... how bout we start by looking for someone willing to take charge of this? Has to be a licensed reseller so I'm already eliminated... anyone?

I suppose you'd all want free shipping too ... :Q

Not to rain on your parade or anything, but seriously, would you put upfront $8-10K (or more of your own money) for such an order in hopes to maybe make $100 or $200 ? Not to mention the amount of time you will spend filling all the orders.

Corect me if I am wrong.... but I thought (If I remember right) he gave away some hardware to ppl that won the contest. Where you had to find stuff from some sites and add that to a email...

I think he can give stuff away.... but I am sure he has friends that he gives the stuff away too first. But I know he can't give away anything that is not publicly released yet..... Unless he gets permition I think... Oh well. It's just a guess....

because it would benefit him also... Just think about it. The person would be getting the item dirt cheap for himself and would actually come out with free items which are most likely fully covered by the profit... oh and I can name you a couple who do this stuff for none or little profit right now simply b/c they want to benefit from the low costs: DJohn for one and SinfulWeeper for another... there you go for ya skeptics out there

How much cheaper do you want it. Etailors like Onvia are selling items at a loss right now as part of a marketing strategy to improve there customer base for sales later on in the future. Online hardware prices are going go up not down since the finacial investment comunity is not going to wait around anymore for these .com companys to turn a profit 5 years from now.
