I think our problem come from the inside. The far right is destroying the reputation of the country among other countries, and the far left is weaking the country from the inside, fueled by a guilt complex.

We need to do away with the Constitution. It no longer protects out country but is strangling it to death. We need to reform as a nation. But I'm a radical so, thats my stand. let the world hate us for when they hate us they will fear us.

Cheney? Is that you?

The US will not continue to be a superpower. Instead, the entire world will be united as an equalpower. This united Earth will lead to us becoming a superpower among planets. Our arrogant planet will attempt to spread it's ideals to other lesser worlds which will result in the downfall of mankind.

why does it matter who the military super power is? in another 20-30 years...what country won't have enough nukes to omit earth from the solar system :x

Oh they have 1 for sure. They bought a Ukrainian carrier and is clearly turning it into a VTOL carrier or something. I don;'t read too much defense news but I had to research a little when writing my paper on the SCS.

Phase:

Britain
Global War 1792 ? 1815
World Power 1815 ? 1849
Delegitimation 1850 ? 1873
Deconcentration 1874 ? 1914
Challenger: Germany

US
Gobal War 1914 - 1945 (WW1, WWII)
World Power 1945 - 1973 (Cold War)
Delegitimation 1973-2000
Deconcentration 2000 - ?
Challenger: ??? China ???

Interesting?

Um, we should be debt free in about 8 years.

We arent in decline. Other countries are just catching up. The only thing that could come close to another super power is the EU if it ever gets unified - but they are mucking that up - and china.

We will continue to be a superpower 'til the Sleeping Giant wakes up. For Science sake, their GDP has been growing by double digit figures for some periods now. Their potential power scares me, frankly.

When I had macro econ awhile back we were going over national accounting and I asked my professor about the existence of international standards. And there are none. This led to him mentioning that China's accounts probably aren't accurate.

Military, we can be a superpower for a while. China is coming on strong tho. <see the story about their missle knocked out an old satlite out of space>.

Financially, not too long if we keep spending money like we do now and not enough saving <both public and private sectors>.

I am also worry about our youth ability to learn and keep up to date the the necessary skills.

Well, the only (sensible and practical) way to measure GDP via the expenditure approach. So you're telling me that the nation of China has no means of measuring how much is produced in its county during a time period. China, a quasi-Communist county that has hold over most business and farm production, has no viable means to measure imports, exports, and monies spent? I find this unbelievable. My macro-econ prof goes off now about their growth -- I'll ask him if they have a BEA type online system where we can see their figures.

50% bad loans, 9-10% growth each year, undervalued currency, rising energy costs...it is inevitable China will enter a recession, and when they do they will fall HARD.

Arable land- we have plenty, plus Canada's farmland is just over the border for the taking.😉 Plus, fertilizer and pesticides need oil- we have enough , or at least the pull to maintain control over overseas markets.

China- hah! Yes they can feed themselves but not at any rate to maintain any kind of SP status. Watch out for the Gobi to the north...

Interesting?

a thought just came across my mind when you made me realize the US wasn't the challenger for hegemonic power, but as you mentioned Germany was.

So.... China might become a challenger for world control... but, who shall arise the hegemonic state? Wonder if the EU will continue to slowly unite and grow closer to becoming a completely sovereign state in of itself and steal away the hegemony if the US and China war with each other.
hmmm

I think we've reached the peak of our civilization around the time of the moon landing, and it's been pretty much downhill since then. We're now in the stages of a 1984 esque police state, with RFID tags, National ID cards, cashless society where you are nothing but a walking credit score.

With an extremely stretched out military, few leaders who actually take any action, a seemingly failing education system, and an economy that is built off loans... do you think America will be able to stay the world's super power at this rate?

Nope. In a few more years at the current rate, much of the country will be a 3rd world province and suburb of Mexico.

I think that India and China will be eating the US's lunch 30 years from now, thanks to all of the investments that multi-national corporations are putting into their infrastructure.

I don't think that we need to worry too much about the EU, though, since their businesses are even more over-regulated and overtaxed than the US. The European work ethic also sucks, with their mandatory 35 hour work weeks and 6 weeks of vacation every year.

Why does everyone think India is such an economically powerful country? They have roughly the same GDP as Mexico but with 10x the population.

America will always be a "superpower." We have the best strategic location and the largest amount of arable of any country in the world.

I've always noted that. Our location is perfect. It's nearly impossible to conduct a land invasion of us.

No. The U.S will not continue to be a superpower. The U.S. population is currently struggling under the sheer weight of government. Taxes and regulations have spiraled out of control while the entitlement state continues to expand. This is the inevitable result of unlimited democracy which the U.S. has devolved into slowly since its inception.

A number of economists have predicted that the U.S. government will be fully bankrupt by 2030 due to the strains of Social Security and numerous other entitlement programs. At that point, or even before that, a political revolution could take place, disrupting the economy and causing death/destruction. Either that or a significant number of wealthier/productive Americans will become expats, going to less taxed/regulated places in the world. At that point the U.S. will be hallowed out of productive citizens, leaving nothing but a shell.

Social security is NOT in dire straits...it can be sustained for at least the next 50 years paying out in full, and it will NEVER pay out below 71% of what was promised. NEVER.
