Do you take your digicam everywhere? How do you do it and not look like a tard?

I'm seriously considering hauling my Olympus C4000 around with me. Not for 'normal' things like pictures of friends, but for random visual tidbits that I find 'cool'. There are a lot of these, and so far I've missed storing 100% of them. Problem is that it's not the smallest camera on earth, and won't comfortably fit in a pocket.

I've thought about a camera bag for it and all the associated gear (SM cards, batteries, etc.)- but then I'd look like a girl toting around an oversized purse. I have the neck strap (And actually use it in the field field), but it's mad uncomfortable and looks touristy.

And no, I will not leave it in the car - it will get stolen guaranteed, and there are many circumstances where you can't say 'Hold on, I need to go get somthing out of the van'

Ideas?

I used to but I realized I was too shy to just bust it out and start shooting things. I ended up leaving it at home more often than none.

I spend way too much time around videographers and photographers - I've been known to randomly pick up a camera in the A/V lab and leave a few minutes of my videotaping a cheerleader's butt on the end of whatever tape happens to be in it.

seems reasonable

Therefore, I need the superior zoom lens and resolution on the C4000. MiniDV just don't freakin cut it in capturing the full effect of a fine piece of ass.

this is what compact digital cameras are made for. they look cool and girls will want to play with it (and if all goes will, you, later)

No, because its a canon D30 and its huge.

Now if I had one of those, this wouldn't even be an issue. I'd just score myself one of those big messenger bag style camera bags and haul that around all the time - because it's big enough that it clearly IS NOT a purse.

I have a Pentax Optio S. It's smaller than carrying around an Altoids tin. I keep it with me whenever I remember to take it.

Just go buy another cheaper, SMALLER digital camera.

I considered, but I can't stand camera bodies any smaller than the Olympus C-Z series (With the possible exception of the Canon A-series - but those are still huge). Again, part of hanging around with videographers and photographers.

Maybe I should just start wearing hillariously oversized pants?

I've got a Canon S110, and it fits in my pocket. No need for a case, and when women see it, they say, "aww...cute camera." Which, of course, makes the picture taking very easy. 😀

I keep mine in my messenger bag (man-purse). The bag is with me most anywhere I go. If I'm not carrying it, it's probably in my car.
