I love Costco. Their prices on vodka, beer and wine are the lowest and they actually have a decent selection of wines.
I'll take 2, thanks.
Ohio Costco's don't even have liquor - only beer and wine.
Hopefully soon they'll look to get the proper license, I've heard some of their Kirkland liquors are terrific compared to big brands (relabeled, I've heard?).
That said - I haven't seen any evidence to support the idea that beer is priced well at Costco. At our Costco, beer appears to match the standard price I can find at Kroger or even Target.
And, in fact, the free Kroger Plus membership tends to make the beer cheaper than Costco.

Nope, quantity is far too high for my needs.

We have some screwed up liquor laws here, which is out of Costco's control. They probably don't want to compromise and sell diluted liquor to satisfy some stupid state's antiquated liquor law. Speaking of that, it is illegal to require a "shopper card" to get sales on alcohol. Kroger uses those "w/Plus card" tags because they have a ton, but if you don't scan your card you still get the yellow tag price.
Good thing they have all these controls for alcohol, and now no one in Ohio gets DUIs, or is addicted to it!
Originally, I thought that as well. You wind up saving more money than you originally thought, and if you have dogs, you'll save a boatload on their food. For example, Blue Buffalo is on-par quality-wise with Kirkland Signature. BB is ~$48 for 30lbs, whereas KS is ~$36 for 40lbs. I'll make my membership back in dog food alone once my pup switches over to adult food (Costco does sell puppy food, but my local store doesn't carry it).
Got any data to demonstrate the food being basically equal to Blue Buffalo?
Hmm, didn't know that about Kroger.
Couldn't Costco get the proper liquor license for full-strength sales? What, might they have to build a store-within-a-store type thing like Kroger with State Liquor Agencies?
I'll admit I'm not up to speed on all the exact details. I do know Ohio is beyond ridiculous, but we're also thankfully not the worst in this regard.
