I want to own O Brother Where Art Thou on DVD but $19.99 is just to much, if it were $17.99 or less I'd be all over that DVD.

Yeah! This is like a friggin AA meeting around here! And I'm just as guilty.

I feel really bad for my friend though, friggin guy is a MAJOR overclocker...in the past 2 months he's blown up 6 motherboards (2-K7 Masters, 2-K7T266 Pros, 2-EPOX 8K7A)!!...Not to mention 4-1.33GHz Tbirds! The crazy bastard just recently killed an AYHJA Stepping Tbird!

Yes, he's RMA'd a couple...But most of the others went passed there return policies and he's stuck with nice wall art.

NO offense, but it sounds like he sucks at overclocking. I've been overclocking since the K6-2 days, & the only things I've wrecked so far have been one PCI Voodoo3 that I sanded & washed in water (just for the hell of it, I didn't care if it survived), & a GF2 GTS that died at the hands of a defective Blue Orb.

There's no excuse for destroying that much hardware.

I knew I had a shopping problem when I charged a plastic cactus to sit in the bathroom one time.

Now I shop for a living...so there is no cure for me now.

Yeah I remember that saying and it's so true.

I knew I had a shopping problem when I charged a plastic cactus to sit in the bathroom one time.

Now I shop for a living...so there is no cure for me now.

Oh yeah? Well I paid $5 for a pair of Green Bay packer slippers just because, they suck by the way :(

2001: A Space Odyssey (new remastered version)

Dag nabbit! I already bought that a long time ago! And what's worse is that I haven't actually watched it yet. Now they have a remastered version? :|

So far, I've bought over 100 DVDs but I haven't had time to actually watch most of them yet. Most of them I've already seen in the theater. I guess you could say I'm a collector of DVDs now (I used to be a big time comic book collector). :)

Have you ever checked out the DVDTalk.com forums?

I'm pleased to see that I'm not alone :)

DVD movie habit is a BAD thing. So far I'm up the 130+ range and plan to be around 150 by end of year. I'm waiting for Macross on DVD, and that's going to be 12 DVDs and Akira is coming too, so that's yet another. I've slowed down on my DVD purchasing since I bought a car, but I haven't left it. My new toys are DirecTV, so my cash will be a bit sparse until I find the receiver I want.

And the remastered 2001 is WAY WAY WAY better than the old nonamorphic disc. The picture quality on 2001 remastered is simply the best picture quality I have ever seen. And the sound is great too. But they really went to work on this one and now it shines.

The addition of anamorphic is great too, an extra 33% resolution for people with 16/9 displays or TV's that are capable of being squeezed. I used to have about 25 out of 130 dvd's that were non anamorphic, now I only have one, The Abyss.

Anybody got a link to a list of anamorphic titles? I want to pick up a few to show off the 16:9 squeeze on my Wega once I get a DVD player. I don't think any of my current ones are.

The last "impulse" buy I had was at the tune of $121,900.

We decided on buying, found, bid, and closed on a house in under 2 months. :)

Viper GTS - You should be able to find a list of anamorphic DVD titles at either DVDPriceSearch.com (power search) or at DVDFile.com

If you do find a list please post the link here, thanks.

Viper, what discs do you have? I can probably tell you. I would be surprised if you didn't have any anamporphic titles (unless you've only got one or two discs). Beginning a year or two ago, 95%+ of newly mastered titles are anamporphic, and some have been since their first release in 97.

Each studio has a different way of indicating 16:9 enhancement on the packaging, and some discs don't advertise it at all.

Some of the sites out there make it sound like anamorphic titles are a rarity, but AaronP set me straight.

Off the top of my head I have:

The Matrix
Heat
Pretty Woman
Top Gun
Malice
Basic Instinct
The Crow
Independance Day

well d33pt, its an easy concept, but it's hard to explain. hehe

regular widescreen discs the black bars are actually part of the picture and encoded on the movie.

Anamorphic movies use the whole area for picture and stretch it out to make stuff tall and thin.

Then when you have a widescreen tv, or a tv that can do the squeeze, it squeezes the info down, so it looks right.

to simplify it, anamorphic discs have about 33% more resolution than non anamorphic ones.

fvck it, go here and this will explain all.

I figured you must have the Matrix (who doesn't? :)) That one, along with ID4 and Heat are anamorphic. If you have the Crow SE then it is also anamorphic. I belive Malice is also thought I'm not certain.

Unfortunately, Top Gun isn't, and neither is Pretty Woman or Basic Instinct. What a shame... it would have been nice to see 33% more detail of Sharon Stone's @#$$&. ;)
