Do you suck at predicting grades?

Right after finals, I always seem to think that my grades are going to be awful and every semester I think I'm going to get .5 points lower than I actually do. Do you find this to be a common occurrence, or am I alone in my underestimations?

I generally have a pretty good view on what my grades are going to be. The only time I'm wrong is when I do poorly on a final but so does everybody else, so there is a curve and I end up with a better grade than I thought.

After the first 2 semesters, I've been pretty spot on. Sometimes, the curve is overly generous.

Curves FTW. :)

I usually end up with about what I expect, but if I'm off it's usually a bit better than I guessed.

Always try to get 100% + extra credit before the finals and it has never failed me. Generous allowance to bomb during finals FTW! :D

almost every term of my college career, i would look at the syllabus, decide which grade i want (a or b) then find the minimum required to get that grade and do it.

i rarely didn't get a grade i was expecting.

it drove my professors nuts because they all wanted me to do my best.

one of my profs actually docked me for lack of effort.

since i work best under pressure, I either start out strong at the start of the semester, then drop the ball in the middle and ramp back up at the end or I screw the start up and improve through the rest of the semester.

Worked so far, and I am usually within 1 grade increment on my predictions, ie +/-.

Yeah, my spanish prof hates me for that. I said I wanted a B and didn't care about the class at the start of the semester, so I ace one thing then get a C or a D on the next. lol. I think she will dock me from a B to a B- to spite me.

Well, duh. Why would strive for anything less than perfect before the finals.

I post all of my grades bi-weekly, so that students like you don't whine or wonder what they're getting. Its plain as day. I tell students that if they don't know their grade and where they stand, its their own damn fault.

Sadly, most teachers that I have had don't do that. Pretty much the only teachers that do that at the school I used to go to were the CS Profs.

Same at my school.

But, it's not too hard to keep track of your grades yourself. I do it in all my other classes just fine.

I'm terrible at predicting my grades. I usually think that I did terrible, and I usually do moderately ok.
