Do you stop if you hit an animal?

I was driving tonite and I saw a couple sets of eyes dart into the road about 100 feet ahead of me. The roads were really wet so I didn't want to jam on my brakes and spin out. I was figuring they were dear so I slowed down and drifted to the right shoulder of the road. Then I saw it was a couple of cats with a dog in chase. I aimed for right behind the dog so I wouldn't hit the critters or have to do any quick maneuvering. Just as the dog was clearing my lane another dog popped out. I swerved into the middle of the road and tried to time it between the two dogs. I thought for sure I made it but then I heard a thud. I have hit critters before and knew that a thud without feeling anything means the dog probably just hit my rear quarter panel or maybe my bumper. I was running late and wasn't sure if there was anything I could do for the poor guy even if I did stop.

I felt really bad for hitting it but I did all I could to avoid hitting it without doing any Dale Jr. moves. Would you have stopped or kept on going?

Nope, in fact I tend to accelerate swiftly when my neighbours ugly cats are around. What can I say I'm a dog person, if it was a nice German Sheppard I'd definetely try and stop/avoid.

Hope someone runs over your dogs.

It looked like some type of Collie. I only saw it for a split second.

Required by law here to notify the owner or police if you hit a dog..so I'd stop. Dunno how it is elsewhere. :)

Depends on the animal. If it was a dog or something and I could pull over and get to it, I'd probably check for a tag.

if it's a rabbit, skunk, possum, etc. then I wouldn't stop. if it were a dog, cat, or otherwise obviously a domesticated animal, then I would.

I would have stopped and see if the dog was alright. I would have seen if I could find identification and let the owners know. And if needed, take the dog to an emergency hospital.

I've stopped, when I thought there was the potential it was still alive. It never has been though. Luckily I've only hit 2 squirrels, and had one bounce off a hubcap.

Depends on if it was a domesticated animal and whether I was in a residential neighborhood

The only reason I might stop for a dog is my dog when I was a kid got killed and whoever hit it was nice enough to have brought it to the Humane Society where they put her down (broken back). I really couldn't imagine going to pick up a half-dead dog and putting it in my car and driving it to the vet, so I guess I got lucky with who hit my dog.

Sure, if only to check for damage to my car. I'd feel horrible about hitting a dog though, even if there was no avoiding it. Cats, etc., no problem though

I usually stop, although it hasn't happened much. Gotta check the car for damage, at least...

What do you mean "spin out"? You don't have ABS? No offense, but if you can't brake in the rain without spinning out, you probably shouldn't drive in the rain to begin with...

required by law here for dogs to be on a leash at all times.

I don't want to hit an animal, but I am not going to drive stupid to avoid one either.
