I got a 19 " Compaq, but not with me at college. I didn't want to bother lugging it back and forth to my house and apartment twice a year, and it takes up too much space for a college setting.

Absolutely. I've owned one LCD a while back, and found the input lag and slight ghosting was too bothersome to gaming to tolerate. Maybe when OLED displays come out, or other advances in LED/LCD tech mature I'll abandon my CRT, but for now, I'm still CRT all the way.

while back? how far back...ghosting is no longer an issue.

19" NEC MultiSync FP950 for my gaming machine.

I will replace it eventually, but I don't know when. Plus, I don't know what to get as a replacement (either a 1080p LCD television or monitor).

It's been almost 2 years ago now I believe. This is the model I bought, it's still available at NewEgg - Link

This one had pretty good reviews, with most everybody saying they couldn't notice any ghosting, that the response time was great, yadda yadda... With fast action FPS games (Quake 2), to me there were clear differences, and what I would call "ghosting" between my old 19" CRT at the time, and this monitor.

I believe there are some monitors out now that have a 2ms access time? Perhaps that would improve upon the above. But I think maybe the 60Hz refresh cap (or maybe it was 75?) is making things noticeably different too (ran 112Hz on my CRT). I believe I've heard of 120Hz LCD's now too. I'm not totally up-to-speed with the cutting edge as far as LCD's go currently, in regards to gaming LCD's.

I think I'm maybe more sensitive to ghosting than some people though. I know I've heard many people claim "the human eye can't see past XX FPS" or something like that, but I've noticed differences between 90 and 100 FPS, and possibly even 100-120 or so.

well things change quick in lcd. yes 2ms, but even 12-16 was pretty damn good. i think i headshotted enough people in cs with lcds to know its not throwing off my aim.

i think you dont understand that refresh rate is basically irrelevant in lcd. lcd refreshes entire screen at once. 1hz would not flicker, but the screen would only show 1fps. crt only needs its fast refresh because its drawing itself one line at a time while the previous lines fade away. a 60hz lcd has a theoretical ability to show 60fps. course pixel response reduces this but not enough to matter. with crt you aren't so much seeing fps as reduction in screen flickering. yes i used to run a crt at 120hz when i still used them. i can't stand 60 hz either and can spot it a mile away. but its fine for lcd.

frankly the bigger difference is wide screen. once you get used to wide screen and being able to see more and more naturally in fps looking at a 4:3 image looks like you are viewing the world with blinders on.

I have a 17" Nokia Multigraph 447Za and a 15" IBM G50. The 17" works for surfing and gaming while the 15" is just perfect for IPTV. Work perfect for me.
I wish I could replace the G50 with a Daewoo monitor I have but its power button is broken and its missing a fuse. The Daewoo could do 1600x1200 at 60Hz... nice for a 15".

I have a 21" Dell P1130 (Sony Trinitron) that I use for my PC. Other than the size/weight (the thing is literally a pain to move), I think it is of better quality than most LCDs I've used (not that I've used great ones).

I'm using one right now, a 19" CRT that does 1600x1200, next to a nice LCD I have that does 1680x1050.

I stopped using crt's a couple of years ago. My wife has a 19" Lcd and a 17" crt, she won't replace the crt because the picture is too good compared to the other 19" acer lcd we have.

I have 2 21" CRTs (Dell D1626HT & Nokia 445Pro) which are still running good. Also Dell 2405 & 2001 LCDs in my backup system.

I used a 19" CRT until Friday when I got a 25.5" LCD.

CRT is mostly-dead, which is the only reason I replaced it.
