POLE!

Screensavers pretty much became obsolete when LCD displays took over. Does anyone still use them?

I don't...I have it set to turn off the display after 10 mins of inactivity.

Yes. I like watching things move around. It's my tv. When I'm more concerned with saving power, or creating less heat, I put the display to sleep.

Yes, but my primary use for it is so lock the screen when I am not using the machine.

Yes. Because my monitor is a 60" plasma TV and I don't need image retention or burn in.
It comes on after one minute. It sometimes comes on as I am reading an article.

yes comes on after 20 min,

monitors turn off after an hour

I had it set to just turn off with no screen saver, but I had wakeup issues when doing that

My screen stays on unless I lock Windows. Otherwise with SSDs being so quick, I just shut down the computer if I'm not going to be using it for a few hours.

I haven't used screensavers in years. Computer sounds and screensavers I've always kept off for more than a decade now.

Screensavers were a big trend in the 90's. As soon as people stopped buying them, companies stopped making them.

Oh god, I remember After Dark. Those flying toasters were a cultural phenomenon back then.

LCDs can and do burn-in but it takes so long for it to happen, using a screensaver isn't going to make a lick of difference under normal use. Haven't had one in years. Just turn the screen off when I'm not using it.

I used to, mostly in the win98 days, the windows classic screen savers were the best and most memorable. Now I just turn off the monitors manually when I'm not using the computer. I don't even have any power settings set. At one point I was troubleshooting tosn of PC issues and turned that stuff off and just never turned it back on, but don't really need it.

Yes. I use screensavers for my HTPCs to prevent IR on my plasmas.

You guys that say you use them to prevent damage... Why don't you just blank the display? I use them cause I like to see the movement, but it is kind of a waste of power. Turning the display off would be the practical approach.
