I do.

I feel guilty if I threw it away because I paid so much for it and out of warranty.

You can try selling it on Ebay as a "defective/non-functional" card for spare parts. Maybe someone needs a fan or connector or something.

I think I have a 9800 Pro and a Geforce 4 Ti4400 in storage. But no real need for a backup PCI-E GPU these days since Intel has graced us with IGP.

Times have changed for sure. I used to just pass my old GPUs to my parents' computers but now that laptops and tablets are pretty good there's no longer a need for that.

I also used to keep a backup GPU in case my current one failed and I needed to troubleshoot but now I can just use the integrated graphics.

So I've simply taken the cards to recycling along with other old computer parts. This is what I would recommend to others as well because even when broken they have a bunch of materials (metals especially) that can be recycled and reused. I don't know if other countries have a decent recycling setup for computers though.

No, I'd toss them in a box until I have enough worthless e-cycling to take to the center. That's what I do with all my old parts that aren't worth selling or don't work.

+1. Although, annoyingly, my city moved the e-cycling center to the landfill site instead of having it nicely located next to the DPW. Now I have to weigh an pay to dispose my old/dead parts.

I have a box I put my old/non working stuff in, I then give it to one of my strange friends who wants to try and recover the gold out of them...

I have an Nvidia 8800 and a AMD 7970. Both dead cards. Both died within a week of the warranty expiring. I only have them though because I need to remember to take them to be recycled.

Selling my 5770 and 4830 helped fund my upgrade to a 750Ti.

I keep a few graphics cards for business purposes, mostly low end passively-cooled ones like the odd 8400GS.

Well for video cards that still worked when I upgraded I found new homes for all of them including my:

  • Geforce 3
  • AIW 9700 Pro
  • Geforce 6800 GT
  • Radeon X850
  • Radeon 1950XT
  • Radeon 4890
  • Radeon HD6900

Friends are still using the 4890 and HD 6900.

Now using a 290x that I was just able to buy in March :)

Since the X850 gen, I've bought end of life or last gen top end cards used, usually seems to be the most bang for the buck.

Never had one die on me, but I saw a lot of G92 based cards die for friends and family back in the day.
