<< Far from marginal gains in sound quality. When you listen to a record, you hear the difference.
And DVD sounds is still 1 and 0. The digital world has not changed much.

But vinyl is mostly for djs and the music purist.
>>

Yes DVD is still 1's & 0's, but there a lot more possible values (by a factor of 256).

And I don't consider myself to be a purist, I do not have the finances nor the knowledge to pursue such an elitist hobby.

I have some DJ turntable that is so messed up that it sounds like it has motion sickness. The strobe never displays the same speed. I really need to get or borrow a turntable too because I have this enormous 12" collection that I want to transfer to digital before I become way too lazy.

Djing is a elitest hobby. Haveing just a turntable is not.

Having a turntable is as easy as owning a cd player.
In fact its probably easier with todays cd players.

And typically, vinyl is cheaper then cds. And its fun to flip through thousands of old records at a family members house or a old record store.

True. Still can't match the sound waves.

Records are bulky too, but once your addicted, there is no turning back.

Didnt mean to start an aguement here so let me put in my 2 cents worth.

The music is the THING!

If you enjoy it then it is great for you. Ive said it is only a few pecent increase in quality and only worth it if you appreciate it.

Viper-

I felt the same way. I thought my little cheap set up was good enough but guess what?

Your ears/hearing grow and you can appreciate tje difference. I didnt think so either until I heard a friends system that I thought was great and then sounded like junk!

The real telling point is your ears and what you like.

True, & it will never completely match it. But much like "true" color, it will get close enough to exceed the sensitivity of human ears.

<< Well let me post for the third time that I'm in the middle of a convert LPs to CDRs session right now.

I'm giving them away for Chritmas presents, we don't exchange until the weekend so this week off saves me. Any good suggestions for recording software(not burning software), I hate to say that I'm using EZCD Spin Doctor.

DART pro, I remember was always highly recommended for Vinyl to digital.

consider yourself lucky. albums were a pain because you didn't want to scratch them or much up the stylus. you had to be extra careful placing the stylus. sometimes, after too many drinks or bong hits, that wasn't always easy!

I'm only 17, and I have a turntable. I bought it last christmas :) I also have TONS of music releases on vinyl - and it's all newly released stuff. I'm not a DJ - but you would think I was if you saw my stuff :)

Thanks killface.

Vinyl is and will always be a pain in the @ss,
setting up turntable,
trying to maintain albums/needle,
replacing cartriges,
only can play half until you gotta get up and flip it over,
gotta keep people from going spaz or it'll skip,

BUT

NOTHING, I mean nothing, replaces the warm soundstage of an album.

YES!! I love my vinyl collection. I try to buy all my music on vinyl, especially the new stuff. Then again, how can anyone listen to Pink Floyd on anything else?
I have an Onkyo CP-1020A turntable with an AudioTechnica ATP2XN cartridge.
Not "high-end" by any means but it sounds great.
