Do you still have a landline?

Who here still uses the plain old telephone system [POTS]? I can't imagine paying another 30 dollars a month for a regular phone line when cellular is so much more convenient with free long distance. Seems like the only reason to have a landline is so you have a surefire connection to 911.

No Cell. I refuse to get one. In fact, I would like to get rid of this land line too, but my DSL requires it.

I would make a perfect hermit.

Yes.

The only reason is because of my ReplayTV.

I'm torn between selling it and getting VoIP or keeping and it and the landline since its a highly used part of my TV system.

If i remember correctly you can't have VOIP in the US as your only source of phone communication because of some FCC regulation that you have to be able to use your land line if the power goes out. So providers can't let you use that only but when I can sign a waiver I would so use it.

Cell phone only for me, and I don't plan on going back. Maybe some VoIP someday, but for now cellular does fine.

I'm cell only, but the folks at home still have a landline for local calls (my dad has a cell that they use for their long distance).

No land line here, I have my cell and so does my roommate.

We have Cable Modem for internet and Direct TV for TV as well.

First of all...a "landline" and VOIP aren't quite the same. If you travel somewhere where broadband will be available, you can take it with you.

Secondly, cell phones charge you for all airtime..incoming calls, checking your voice mail, everything. I had a cell as my only phone for a couple years and I dumped it in favor of Vonage. I was paying ~$50/mo for 400 anytime minutes and unlimited night and weekend. I now have unlimited local and LD...ANYTIME, for $25/month.

Also, the VQ is waaaay better than any cell can provide, at least in my area. Add to all that the fact that due to referrals, I am currently paying $0 for the next 6 months, and it seems like a no brainer to me.

😛

I got VOIP and a cell phone. The cell doesn't work in the house though, atleast not till I hook up my repeater.

VoIP and a Cell. I need the VoIP for faxing and Tivo. The unlimited calling means I can lower the plan on my cell and save even more money.

And my calls to 911 over VoIP will be directed to my local 911 call center and they will see my address.

still have an $18/mo. landline just in case. That's with 0 calls made per month. During the blackout in NYC and 9/11... no cell phones got through... the landline saved us there.

Also my utilities are "tied" to it. I can't imagine giving my water/oil/cable companies my cell phone#...

What do you guys do in this case ?

Yep, still got a landline, for DSL.

Mobiles aren't really cheap enough here in the UK to use them exclusively, and i hate calling mobile numbers, so i wouldn't want others to have to call me on my mobile all the time.
