A fan, preferrably oscillating. In the absence of a fan (like at a motel), I use the white noise app on my phone.

I used to as a kid. More recently I had an asshole frat roommate for a semester who would screw around (in every sense except the nasty) all hours of the night which forced me to listen to music again to get any sleep.

I usually have to have some sort of noise. I have started listening to podcasts while I sleep. Used to just have a fan or white-noise machine.

I need white noise of some sort. I used to listen to music constantly when sleeping but with a partner who can't fall asleep with it going, I use a bathroom fan at night for said noise.

I have to have music or tv. I've suffered from tinnitus since I was a kid(had a lot of ear problems over the years) and could not sleep because of the constant ringing(which varies in intensity). So I got in the habit since then of listening to something in order to quiet the ringing somewhat so I could fall asleep.

i, too, have had tinnitus all my life, although without ear problems. when it's dead quiet.....rrrriiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGgggggg.

i like to fall asleep with a video playing. music is too engaging, and infomercials infiltrate my dreams.

Nowadays, nice and quiet. Before, I used to sleep with case fans on. At other times, I play music if I'm around someone who snores.

Lot of times I put a cd on - like Pink Floyd, Royksopp.
Or else it's a 80 min chillout mix on my pc speakers.

My noise machine has been in storage for years.

I hate lights and need silence enough silence.
I don't care if there are some spare cars outside or I see the lights going through the curtains and blinds, as long as it's not continous (no street lamps on my windows please).
I can't stand lights in my room and television noise though. The continous image change and chatter makes it impossible to sleep for me.

I used to sleep with music on every night, but stopped several years ago. When I try doing it now, I can't fall asleep :/

Not usually, but a couple nights ago my wife downloaded a white noise app for her phone. So the last two nights we've listened to thunderstorm sounds as we went to sleep. It was pretty nice actually!

Sometimes I'll put music on, nothing new or engaging but favorites from years ago. Slower songs obviously. Most likely Indian music.

Sometimes I'll put an episode of the Simpsons on and keep the volume low. I memorized all the dialogue anyway so it doesn't require my attention.

Sometimes complete silence, or just the hum of my PC. I have no issues going to sleep in complete silence, but as a child it was extremely difficult. Guess I've grown up.
