Do you ski or snowboard, or which do you want to do?

I've been skiing since I was 10, and I fvcking love it. :D The rush I get every time I fly down the mountain is unbeatable. One of my favorite things is hard packed backwoods riding. I love skiing between trees but not worrying about getting stuck in too much powder.

I tried boarding once, and I had a blast too. I fell on my ass a whole bunch :p, but I'm sure I'll try it again one day.

Here are a few things to know about skiing/boarding:
- Skis are MUCH faster than boards (assuming you both point straight downhill and just go)
- Snowboards offer more control/agility, hence the emergence of snowboard parks
- Snowboards, because they are wider, are easier to control in heavy powder
- Neither is easier to learn, it just depends with what kind of mindset you go with. Often times people end up having a better time learning to snowboard because all their friends board as well. Or some people are more comfortable having independent movement of both legs, and for some people it's scary.

For people that have done neither, you should go out and try it! There's nothing like flying down a mountain at 30mph knowing that if you fall, all you have to do is roll and slide, and you can get right back up! :D:p

For me snowboarding was WAY harder to learn. A good analogy I heard was that boarding is harder to learn, but easier to get good at than skiing. But in my opinion boarding is much more fun.

I've never snowboarded or skiied in my 18 years of life until about 3 weeks ago. Went snowboarding and had an awesome time. It was not too hard to learn, I within an hour and half, I was going up the easiest of the hills and falling less and less by the end of the day. If I was going to continue with either, I'd choose snowboarding.

You actually have less control over things like turning and maneuvering on skis. Coming down an incline with obstacles or bumps, in my experiences, the snowboarder manages those a little more quickly

Both, but last time I went snow boarding I broke my wrist, so I think ill stick to skiing for a while. I was a skier for about 10 years before I learned how to snowboard...

Snowboarding is one of the most exhilarating experiences there is. I started out on the "bunny hill" last winter and the last time I went, I was on the toughest hills. Pretty easy to pick up IMO. I have never skied before tho, so I don't know if it is better or not.

Unless your skis pop off and go shooting down the mountain ahead of you, leaving you to walk down.

Or unless you fall and break your wrist snow boarding after trying and failing miserably to do a 720 ;)

I skied since I was a little tike right till I was in college. Went on a week long ski trip and decided on my last day to rent a snowboard and give it a go. My ski's have not been touched since that day. I've regularly snowboarded every year since then (8+) and have no interest in skiing...even though my fiance can only ski...I still refuse to ski. There is nothing like carving down a mtn in a snowboard and taking advantage of every bit of the terrain.

I'm actually hitting the slopes for a few days this weekend...and really looking forward to some quality boarding.

I've yet to see a snowboarder negotiate a good set of moguls. Corollary: I have no issues with subjecting the base of a pair of beaten-up rentals to the terrain park. Railslides, anyone?

I do both, but in terms of my skill level, skiing > boarding.

Skiing is definitely easy to "learn" in that you can go down the hill at a controlled pace without wiping out too easily...but to really be able to carve down the hell with intention takes a lot of time and effort to learn the proper techniques.

Snowboarding has an initial learning curve which can range for mild to really difficult for people...but once they get it...you are much better than the skier who has put in an equivalent amount of time learning.

I'm a skiier, the gf is trying to convert me to snowboarding and well, after my last session, I was a little sore.

I have the same thoughts on snow sports as motorcycling, if you're on two wheels, you're a friend. If you're sliding down snow/ice, you're a friend.

Snowboarding was a little more fun to me going down the hills, but I hate getting stuck every once in a while and having to skateboard over to slope again.

I dn't own my own set of skiis or board yet, but I'll probably be going board, just because its easier to get going for a day trip. Board/bindings and other clothing. Don't have to worry about the poles that I miss so dearly on flats.

It can be done unless the moguls are just ridiculously close together or deep...then it gets difficult.

That being said, you don't run into moguls in back country skiing/snowboarding like you do on black diamonds designed to have moguls. In my opinion black diamonds with moguls were created to give good skiers something a little more intriguing to do.

Never tried...or wanted to try either.

People think I'm nuts for not skiing/boarding, since I have lived in Utah my entire life.

Skiing for me is better. I rented a snow board and tried it out. I definitely got the idea of use the one edge and shifting the weight between your heels and your toes to do the carving. But man, when you fall on a snowboard is just hurts soooo much more than when you fall on skis. I did it for about 2-3 hours and then had a nice fall where I was on my toe edge facing up hill lost my balance and the heel edge dug in and my head whipped through the 120 degree arc to collide with the packed snow. Felt like I almost knocked myself out! At that point I went to the car and got my skis!
On the other note about control, I think skis definitely give you more control than a snowboard because you have two edges you are using to control yourself at a time as opposed to one. On the other hand I think this will make a skier slower than a snowboarder for the same reason.

Been snowboarding every chance i get this winter here in Michigan, its been a blast. I have only been skiing once in my life and the basics i would have to say were much easier then snowboarding basics. But some of these skiers i see in the parks are amazing, and i imagine the stuff they do is very difficult, not to mention the risk of nutting yourself on a rail.. ouch.

Will be going up to Canada to do some real riding next week for spring break!
