umm, you were supposed to signal as you got into the left turn lane, weren't you? Then it stays on.

But the lane I was driving in became the left turn lane! What do i do?!

I know you were trying to be funny, but, in reality, that would be the most important time to signal. Not everyone will pick up on the fact that the lane became turn only.

Most of accident avoidance in knowing what the other person is planning on doing and letting others know what you are planning on doing. By turning off your signal wouldn't the person behind you then think you were no longer planning on turning left?

And the person behind you is not the only person who can see your signal and may be taking actions based on what they perceive you are going to do.

I signal every time, for every turn. It reassures other drivers of your intentions, and when you do it all the time, it becomes part of the routine, and you don't forget.

I almost always signal. If I'm in a turn-only lane AND I turn on an arrow, sometimes I don't. If I'm not in a turn-only lane or I turn on a solid, I always signal.

Yes.

If I'm turning, I use my turn signal. Doesn't matter where I am or even if there are no other cars around. I still use my turn signal.

Yeah, good point.

Honestly the scenerio I had pictured in my mind at the time was a left turn/straight and right turn only has it's own lane, which is an intersection a go through regularly.

Yes, not so much as a warning that I'm turning left, but because
not signaling gives the cops a reason to pull you over.

That and it's just a cue to others that you aware of the lane you are in and aren't going to do something fucking stupid (cause sometimes people try to go straight out of the turn lane).
