Do you signal when in the left turn only lane?

Just a quick Q to see trends in ATers. When you're in a left turn only lane, do you still signal or not? I usually don't, as the signal is to warn people of where you're going which being in the turn only lane does.

Yes, not so much as a warning that I'm turning left, but because
not signaling gives the cops a reason to pull you over.

No, being in the turn-only lane doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to make the turn... lots of people violate traffic control signs/devices. I signal because that's the easiest method to tell everyone "yeah, i really do intend to turn here...".

I signal every time, for every turn. It reassures other drivers of your intentions, and when you do it all the time, it becomes part of the routine, and you don't forget.

Yeah, because there are a lot of stupid drivers who, somehow, might not realized it's a turning lane.

This. I signal for pretty much everything. You never know when you might be pulled over by an unmarked for something small. I got pulled over by an unmarked for doing a rolling stop once.

Yes, unless it is a 3-way intersection and the only options are left and right, and I am in the left-only lane. In that case it is more like the road you're on is taking a left, so I don't signal. Otherwise you should signal for oncoming traffic because they can't necessarily see the lane markings ahead of them on the opposite side.

I signal for everything - it's my way of saying "Hey! This is my intent, I announce my intended action"

I assume this carries over from my days in a distribution center/manufacturing environment where signaling where you're going is not just a rule, it's for safety. Even if you're a pedestrian.

OP - you fail if you don't signal. Other drivers don't know what light you have, the entire reason of a turn signal is to say where you're going.

Yes, mostly out of habit. Also, the people coming from the other direction may not know you're in a left turn lane.

That only matters if you're stupid enough to turn when you're not supposed to, but in general it's good to let other drivers know what you're doing.

If you don't keep the blinker fluid circulating, it will congeal and your signals won't work when you really need them.

Yes because:

1.) It's the law
2.) It lets other drivers know that I know I am in a left turn lane. How many times have you had people cut in front of you because they had not realized they were in a turn only lane?

Yeah.

I asked my sister and brother in law, both are police officers and they said that at least in Mass you don't have to when you are in a marked turn only lane. They may be wrong, but were in Mass so its not like anyone actually uses the turn signal anyway.

Nope. I only signal when I am making a turn off the road I am on, and only if it is a turn from the main lane of traffic. I don't signal when I switch lanes or when I am in a left hand turn lane.

You are what they call the "causer of accidents".
