Do you sign your credit cards?

Only on occasion. My rents sometimes don't even bother signing, making for interesting times when they go places. I just love stores asking me to show ID, when I know, and they know, that I don't need ID to purchase something with a card. Makes some nice arguments.

It's entirely up to the store. They can refuse to sell to you if you choose not to show your ID.

I just don't understand why you wouldn't show your id. There is no rational point to it other than to be a PIA.

<< Please Check ID >>

I saw quite an argument at a store once between the store owner and a guy who did this. The store owner told him that this was useless since all a theif would have to do is sign "Please Check ID" and its considered legal.

I don't Citrix, I write w/ a Fine Tip Sharpie [usefull for marking on CDR's as well], "Please ask for Identification." You should start a pool for this thread BTW.

<< That way, when your card gets stolen, the theif has your sig to emulate. >>

And if you don't sign it, they don't have to emulate your sig at all. They can sign the card themselves, and then their signature on the receipt will match the sig on the card!

Of course I sign my cards.

it is WAY TO MUCH OF A HASSLE to do that "check ID" IMO. My sister did that on a card, and it was horrible. First off, the chance of losing your CC is slim, and if you do you're only liable for the first 50 bucks, and none of the major card companies even make you pay for that. Weigh that against the annoyance of having to whip out your ID every time you buy something. not worth it at all.

If you already have your wallet out, it's not that difficult to flip it over and show the clerk.

with anything other than a signature, stores do not have to accept the card. try using that card that says "please check ID" on the back in another country when you're traveling and you'll find out that suddenly you're away from home without a credit card.

Speaking as a merchant, the "check id" is nice to see, but merchant banks makes it clear to their customers (the stores) that CC's that have this on the back must be denied, or they could lose their merchant account.

I've left mine blank. I just don't want to ruin my shiny Amex Blue with my ugly signiture. Famous last words, I suppose.
