No American President should ever bow to any foreign leader like that. Ever. He's done it twice and it's shameful.
What's shameful is the arrogance of POS like you and your ilk considering the act of respect as a sign of weakness. It shows your own lack of confidence in our stature as a country. It's understandable after the previous 8 years under a failed Administration that did considerable harm to our standing as a World Power and leader of the free world but that nightmare is over and we can now confidently take our place again as a country to be respected and emulated.

There is little better proof of the fact that people hate themselves then this projection of one's own personal sense of inferiority and the absurd notions as to what it means to be respected than this ridiculous, totally idiotic, focus on Obama's bowing. I guess it's just another layer on the testicle shrunken case of the right wing girlyness in action.

"Stand up and shake hands like a man, Obama. If my testicles shrink and farther I won't have any."

Nobody paints inferior across their forehead like folk who worry about their masculine image and how effectively they appear to be dominant. Obama is the President of the United States. You don't get any more dominant than that.

So far I see ONE American in this thread who gives the correct reason why bowing to a monarch should not be done.

Americans do not bow to kings. We overthrew our king and we have the right to never bow. We won this right with the blood of patriots. I will never bow to anyone but Jesus Christ or God.

So far I see ONE American in this thread who gives the correct reason why bowing to a monarch should not be done.

#1 The emperor of Japan is a ceremonial figure only.
#2 The government of Japan is elected.

Bowing to the emperor of Japan is acknowledging that you honor their beliefs and their traditions. If you do it correctly. In Japan, the emperor is considered (or was... culture is changing slowly) a deity. A god.

Obama's bow was a show of respect. Nothing more. Japanese are not stupid, anymore than Americans are (however, if some of the people in this thread are representative of Americans, I'm getting really worried about our country and the sheer amount of ignorance and inferiority they've managed to develop. It takes hard work to look as stupid as some of the folks here...).

Japanese that saw that bow recognize why it was made and how it was meant. It's no different than a foreign dignitary attempting to shake hands and screwing it up. People reading any more into it than that either are total fools are have ulterior motives for wanting to believe Obama 'screwed up'.

PS. I'm conservative, and don't care for Obama, but the right-wingers here are making total fools of themselves harping on this non-issue.

You'd bow to the first jack booted thug that looked at you crosseyed, the ironic thing is you probably would have voted him in.

Not something to go bonkers over, but it's yet another in a long string of little things that the prez has done / does to show his weakness and his lack of belief in American strength.

This forum is great. If you happen to miss Rush/Hannity/Beck, just come here immediately after and read their thoughts verbatim ...

We already knew of the President’s stupidity before he and his wife broke protocol on multiple occasions, so it isn’t much of a surprise. Calling it for what it is does not denote its importance. Yes it is a minor thing.

Still, you keep asking and we’ll keep talking about it. That is as important as it gets.

I think the Obamas handle themselves very well at events they attend. I mean some would say michelle obamas outfit at a recent Veterans Day memorial ceremony was a little out of place... I don't know judge for yourself..

I feel sorry for any protocol officer when the obamas show up.

I don't like Obama all that much, but having a cow over this? No thanks.

We could use some beef around here.

In defense of Nixon, he was just attempting to reach the man's height.

Well, it seems Bow Gate can be put to rest. We, the New York Times included, all appear to have short memories.

You wouldn't need reminding if you weren't an idiot.

Only if you believe all of America's strength is derived from your own sense of what is and isn't "manly".

Stop it, you're breaking my heart:rolleyes:

Look at him. Look at how low the upper-half of his body goes. It looks like he's going to break in two. It's too fucking much. Obama bows like a slave/servant. Truly shameful.

Now that's something I'd expect a weak insecure little man like you to post.

people getting worked up over this are fucking retarded
I don't think anyone here is really getting "worked up" over it, I just think it's a little disrespectful to the office to subjugate himself like that while acting as the president.
