I only heard about this from my brother who got his eyes checked for a detached retina. It's a lot easier to take care of before it detaches. Afterwards it's fixable, but the way he said it, it sounded like it would be much less pleasent. Whether it's before or after your retina detaches, I don't actually know what the procedures are to fix it though.

When I first got fitted for contacts my eye doctor said because I have a really strong prescription, I should get tested for a detached retina, but I've been lazy.

Head rush you mean? When you stand up real quick sometimes it happens, its normal.
 
not a head rush, just comes on while im staring at the screen. my vision is really messed up. i think ill go have a cranial MRI scan.
