Similarly, I hate when people say 'bro' or 'tiger' or 'brah' or 'sport'

my friends say dude to me and i reply "dude dadude dude dude dude" or the ole "dudemanbrodog" I also say boss to people when they are doing me favor etc like "what ever you say boss" its fine with me im used to indian's telling calling me boss all the time at first it was really annoying but i dont let things get to me.

what catches me off guard is when people call me brother as i have no brothers and only have 2 friends that would say that but when random person is like thanks brother

Being born in SoCal has nothing to do with saying Dude. I was born in upstate NY, lived in Bumfuck Ohio and now reside in Texas and I call everyone dude.

If I say boss, it's usually "bosslady or bossman" to my actual bosses.

I don't know man. I know dude is far more widespread now because California dialect and culture has spread rapidly through not only the USA and the world, but I've talked to people from other parts of the USA who say dude and they're even surprised at how often myself and other Californians say it.

Me too, but only when it's out of context.
Anyone not from Hawaii saying "brah", younger than 70 saying "tiger" or not an outlaw biker saying "bro" disturbs my sensibilities.:sneaky:

"brah" is pretty common in certain parts of Southern California too, not just Hawaii. It's surfer lingo.

I thought "boss" was the most annoying thing ever, then I got to work around some really cool old timers who used it and I just picked it up. I've had people think I'm speaking to down to them when using it, but I definitely don't mean it as such. To me calling someone boss is like adding extra umph to the phrase "thanks".

I use brother (but never bro or brah for some reason), dude, man, and more rarely boss, when I'm in the elusively company of my 2-3 closest male friends. I don't see what the problem is? I suppose I should use their first names instead each and every time?

I don't mean boss as in cool, I mean boss as in man or dude. Like "Thanks boss" if someone held the door open for you or something.

i'll walk into a footlocker store, and the hispanic workers always call me boss. :awe:

I'm not hispanic, but I've worked around a bunch. I did not pick up the habit from a hispanic dude though.

I do it sometimes when I feel like I want to be cool.

When I feel the heat to be super-cool, I call people "Chief."

Boss seems big with Turks. I think I use the term sometimes, but I'm not sure. It's been awhile.
