Do you save boxes?

I'm curious if anyone else saves boxes they have from purchases. It can be any type of box.

I never realized how many I've saved up until I just cleared out the basement and my closet. Damn things take up so much space but I kind of want them around in case I need to use for a warranty. Last night I found all my original NES game boxes and the styrofoam rectangles in them that range from 12-15 years old.

Most of it needlessly takes up space but some artwork on things like graphic card boxes are nice.

What about you guys?

I keep most of the boxes in good condition so I could send packages now and then. The larger ones are flattened just in case I have to move.

I used to save all my boxes that I used when I moved -- now that I have an attic, I saved ~80% of the ones I used this time. I rarely save boxes from purchases though -- they take up too much space and they're generally only good for sending stuff to people (which I rarely do).

Yeah. I just realized that I never threw away almost all boxes for anything that I've bought for the past 5 years when we moved about two months ago and I had to clean our storage space.

I keep the ones for my computer parts, and when the item is out of warranty then I just use them to ship in. I do save all of the bubble wrap, packing peanuts, and anti static bags though.

same here.... until I have more boxes or packaging material than actual items, then I will throw some peanuts away.

I use to... i use to save the peanuts too. I go periods of when i liquidate all my junk, so i'll need the boxes and peanuts, so figured i'll save them. Unfortunately the mice started to get into the peanuts, and lived off them... and the boxes just started to take up too much space. I just toss everything out now, and when i want something, i just call up Fedex and they get me some for free (if you have a business account).

I only save the box long enough to test out the purchase, so I can return the product if it's defective. Usually not more than 2 weeks. Only exception is for things that are fragile and need to be stored frequently (like xmas ornaments.)

yeah i barely have enough room in my apartment to store my stuff much less the boxes the stuff comes in. i need more space

Yep. I store the boxes for high-end stereo, video, and sometimes network equipment; having the original box can add significantly to the resale value. Other shipping boxes and packing peanuts I save when they're in good condition for shipping other stuff.

I saved mine for my recent purchases of my NEC 1760NX, Shuttle XPC (great for transporting the box), and Sony MD hi-fi...
