Do you run at max OC speed for every day use?

Hi,
General question about OC for everyday use computer.
Do you run it all at your MAX stable OC? or you throttle down a bit? What is general recommendation?
Says MAX stable OC on spec voltage is probably safe for everyday use, but is it stress too much?
What about comparing to up voltage and get higher max stable OC, is it much more risky than stock voltage OC? Remember, this is for everyday use.

Your opinion is appreciated!

Maxed all the way! :D

Well not quite maxed, my CPU could go higher but I run into heat trouble when I do that. I'm still on stock voltage.

I ran my old 3700+ @ 2.86GHz with 1.5V (0.1V increase). That was the highest it would go and I kept it there, pretty much 24/7 as well.

All you see in my sig....My boxes when they are not be used for their work or play uses fold 24/7.....

Contrary to OChungry (who should be banned) I only leave them at stable speeds...I can suicide pics at much higher speeds for sake of a one time run of superpi...NOt the point...they need to run F@H stable so I dont have to worry about them....

As with most cpus they tend to go fast at the end...requiring large vcore increase to eek out remaining 100-200mhz...In F@H that is not worth it in the 30minutes I may save in duration of WU...

i say find max speed at default vcore...then find the next speed you can obtain with a 10% max oc on the vcore....what is that difference in speed...bench them both and then weigh the consequences of heat and stress (on the cpu as well as other components).

When considering the keywords max and stable, then yes I do.

Of course my temps are good (low) and I don't aggressively overvolt.

Since the keywords are max and stable there is no reason for me to back off. If my machine can pass prime a week straight and keep pumping out work units without error at max OC (not failing such stress tests confirms stability) - and I'm not overvolting out of reason and my temps are low I have no legit reason to worry. I may be shortening the life of my processor but I don't exactly hold onto them long enough (about 3 years at most) to have already replaced the processor long before I've ever seen one die (which I never have)

I run my 3800x2 at roughly 95% of it's max o/c using F@H 24/7. I also use this rig for AutoCAD daily, which combined with F@H keeps both my cores @ 100% usage. I have pretty much run every cpu I've ever owned at 95% of it's max o/c and haven't ever had a problem.

I run my Opty 148 @2.86 24/7 on stock volts. Never tried any higher, I'm happy with it.

Used to run the 3500+ overclocked to 2.5 with CnQ, and now with the 4400+ I just run stock. Pretty satisfied without overclocking.

My specs are in sig, I run this 24/7 and I'd say it's a pretty extreme overclock for my system. Considering the fact that I have a week26 CPU that I had to lap.

I don't run at my CPU's max stable speed. I've got an Opty 144 that is 2.85 prime stable, but it puts off way too much heat at that, so I run it in the ballpark between 2.5 and 2.6Ghz. The voltage requirements for those speeds are drastically lower.

I tend to back off 50MHz from the max stable overclock for 24/7 use because of room temperature variations. What may be 100% stable in a 20C environment may only be 99% stable in a 30C environment. ;)

Actually this is probably closer to what I do, as I consider my max OC as whatever it will do with a SMALL-med vcore addition. No more than 1.45

on my mobile barton 2500+ / ATI 9700pro on a NF7-S ive been running my max O/C for about 2.5 years now and it's still going strong. This is with heavy volt mods on everything too, 4 on the mobo, 3 on the videocard, 4 on the PSU.

Nothing wrong with overvolting, it's just that I live in Florida and the ambient temps are always hot as hell, which puts a damper on overclocking compared to someone up north with nice weather :)

I run my E6400 at 3.7ghz 1.47v. Max oc is around 4ghz, but it reboots almost instantly after getting into windows.

It's a "B" stepping though. 80C load :Q

I run stock volts on all the rigs I've built. Northwood Celeron 2.7 @ 3.1 stock volts (bad board) and Coppermine 550 @ 783 stock volts (dreaded SDRAM ASUS P3C2000 with a slot1 to FCPGA adapter). 2.8 Northwood (800Mhz FSB version) P4 was up to 3.5 stock volts until the crappy PSU blew... Soyo Dragon P4I865PE could no longer overclock.. Sooo I keep that one at stock volts.

Near max every day. I could probably go a little higher with a lot of voltage but I like 2.7GHz at 1.4v for my X2 4200+.

My Barton 2500+ ran at 2.2GHz for three years before I sold it to upgrade to my current system.

I run all of my rigs flat out all the time.

AXP 3000+@2333Mhz 1.85v

P4 3.06@3.45Ghz stock vcore

A64 3000+@2.87Ghz 1.5v

P4 2.66@3.06Ghz stock vcore
