Do you report HOV violators?

The other day I saw a lady driving in the HOV by herself into Houston a few mornings ago.

For those who don't know, you must have a certain amount of people or pay a toll to use these separated carpool lanes. In this particular lane, you must have at least two people or you can be ticketed.

Anyways, you can call a number (713 921 HERO) to report violators. Unfortunately I didn't see the sign with the number until later in the ride. By that time the violator was long ahead of me, so I didn't bother calling. I have it saved in my phone for future use.

So would you report someone violating the HOV lane? To bring matters into perspective, she was overweight and licking her fingers. This image disturbed me greatly and made me slightly infuriated.

I don't think there is a single HOV lane in my entire state (AL), so I don't think the question applies.

what time was it?

the one highway with an HOV lane that I drive down regularly only applies to the AM rush hour... when I see people *not* making use of it outside of those hours, I just think they're dumb tourists.

HOV lanes are everywhere in nova but i don't bother calling. Usually there'll be enough cops out looking out for idiots like that during rush hour.

I don't know if I'd go through the trouble of reporting them because I doubt they'll do anything about it. However, I hate people that think they are special and the rules don't apply to them.

Replace "overweight and licking her fingers" with "black and eating chicken" or "Jewish and driving a Jaguar." It's not a good idea to dislike people because of things like that. Prejudice against fatties is one of the last great prejudices.

<--- slightly overweight enough to post this comment, of course

Would you report a police officer seen sleeping in his cruiser?
Would you report a person who has parked their car going the wrong way in front of their house?
Would you report an airline passenger who has snuck past more luggage than they're officially allowed?
Would you report a morbidly obese person who has obviously eaten more than their fair share at the chinese buffer?
Would you report a beautiful topless model driving in the hov by herself looking dreamily at you?

The HOV line is shutdown in non commute hours and the weekends. Also, all the highway HOV lanes are totally barricaded off from the actual highway. You can just accidentally change lanes in the HOV lane. I know some of the HOV lanes in the city itself are just extra lanes on the road.

She was actually white and probably wasn't eating chicken at 7 in the morning.

I was actally going to make a post about fat people. Gay rights, black rights, etc are big topics in this era. Do you think there will ever be a push for fat rights?

I just can't see a huge push for fat rights because being fat is controllable while being a certain skin color or sexuality isn't.

Nope, but I don't see how this has to do with my question.

I think the act of trying to read a license plate number and writing it down, then using a cell phone, would be much more risky then leaving the person alone. It's like those ads "if you see someone using their cell phone while driving, call the police" yeah, that's really counter productive. :p

Same here. Mostly, though, because I'm not happy with the fact that 66 inside the beltway is entirely HOV during rush. On its face, it's a good idea, considering how many people commute in from far out, to keep that part of the highway HOV only.

However, I live within a mile of 66E inside the Beltway. For those of us living in Arlington Co, or at least, the northern part, it's a pretty big deal to not be able to hop on. I'm of the opinion that an Arlington Co tax sticker should get you through HOV inside the beltway.

It would not significantly increase traffic to let us do so, and the highway cuts through our backyard (mine, almost literally, I live a block from a 66 overpass and maybe a quarter mile from the on/off ramp).

An HOV violation is hardly worth calling about IMHO...however, I do call in the weavers and those passing in emergency lanes, exit and on ramps.

In colorado there's cameras in the HOV lane which gives a system of checking without wasting the cops' time getting them, and everybody else's time calling them in.

wtf, if he was pleading guilty why not just pay the HOV ticket by it self before court costs and such.

OP is the type of person who will call the cops at a party he is at.

fuck nova. i drove down to nova one night to stay at a friend's house. when i left the next morning, i missed the exit for 495 north on 66. well, as it turns out, ALL FUCKING LANES BECOME HOV AFTER 495. so, i took the first exit off that i could find. there was a cop standing there and indicated to me to stop my car. i drove up to him and rolled down my window and tried to ask him to direct me back to 495. he told me to pull over. i tried explaining that i was lost and he yelled at me to pull over and reached for his gun. so, i pulled over. he told me to give him my license and registration. i did and told him that i'm lost and i missed the exit. he didn't care. he came back with a ticket. he asked me to sign and i said "but i'm lost and just needed directions" and he said "ok, and after you sign this ticket, i'll give you directions". so, i signed and the asshole gave me directions. so, he got back in his car afterwards. i was still in park on the shoulder and grabbed my cell to call my mom to tell her what happened. he comes back to my window with another ticket... he claims that i was using my cell phone while i was driving. i was like "but i'm parked... i'm not moving anywhere" and he said it didn't matter to him.

fuck nova.

Underage drinking and partying doesn't bother me as long as you aren't driving home drunk...on the HOV lane.

I just think driving on the HOV lane by yourself is really selfish. *excluding motorcyclists

ah, another wonderful experience w/ nova. Were they state troopers? every other state seems to hate them. especially since they pulled over a convoy heading for post-katrina aid. one that had been police escorted by every state up to VA....
