You're only on this planet once, maybe you should think about trying some fun things while you're here.

We've stigmatized these things to the point where people can't even evaluate risks and potential benefits anymore. That people will refuse to even try a relatively benign and non-addictive drug is just amazing to me.

Actually, your story does sound like the plot summary of a gay sex movie, truth be told.

And I suppose you're familiar with the genre? ;)

I drink occasionally, but I get sick before I get too drunk. Inhaling particles into your lungs that may never come out seems to be more dangerous than ingesting alcohol that is completely metabolized by the body.

Smoking anything is gross to me, so I just don't do it.

Pot can be mixed with fatty foods and eaten too. As others have said, alcohol is far more toxic.

Yeah.

It sucked, I coughed a lot and nothing happened.

Second time was more of the same.

Third time was fun. It was also the last time.

I can honestly say I have never smoked, used pot, or taken any kind of illegal drug in my entire life.
Ditto.
I don't see any need to get drunk either - not that I don't consume alcohol - just that I cannot fathom a reason to drink to the point of inebriation.

This. Include tobacco products with this list, and prior to this year no legal drugs (prescription ones other than antibiotics) either.

Huh? Whatever you were around wasn't pot....

You do realize that not everyone enjoys smoke, right? That some people have allergies, including to pot? I've had the same reactions to it second-hand. Not as bad as cigarettes, but definitely not pleasant.

Condemning pot while being fine with alcohol is just silly. Moderation is the key to both. Personally I don't smoke pot, I have tried it a few times, but I don't do it anymore. Doesn't mean there's anything wrong with those who do enjoy it though.

Pot is also illegal. I'm not going to go around picking and choosing which laws I think are valid.

Yep. First time I vegged out and watched Spongebob. Next time was hanging out with friend and we went out back of his work with his cousin and lit up. It was love at second inhale haha

Seriously though, I do smoke regularly at the end of my days. I hold down two jobs (restaurant manager at one, cook at another), have two cars, etc etc. The point I'm making is not all stoners are useless to society, or thugs that get in trouble or do stupid things when they smoke. I am tired at the end of my work days (all 7 of them) and instead of drinking and risking my inevitable hangover, I smoke a bowl when I get home then play Xbox. But never do I go into work or anything high. Generally a last act of the day kind of thing.

First time I smoked it was a joint. It made my lungs and throat hurt (I'm a non-smoker of anything), but it didn't really alter my mind in any perceptible way. Made me a little woozy, I guess, but it was a wholly boring affair.

The first time I smoked pot out of a bong is a different story. I was hanging out with a friend and a few of his stoner buddies at one of their mom's house. My buddy held the bong for me cause I couldn't figure out how to work the carb. I took a full rip, held it for as long as I could, exhaled, and proceeded to fall in slow motion onto the bed. I didn't move for what seemed like an hour and a half, but was really only about 12 minutes or so. We were listening to Jimi Hendrix (stereotypical, yes, but it was perfect for the occasion), and I was singing along, except I didn't actually know the words, so I just made an electric guitar sound. Everyone else in the room was laughing at me, which for some reason made me feel awesome.

I remember we decided to leave, so we walked downstairs where we ran into this guy's parents. I was loaded; I had never been high before, so I was completely dazed and confused. I accidentally bumped into the mother as I tried to exit the kitchen, said, "Oh, sorry... hey, I think this is yours," and handed her my water glass. My buddy and I walked a couple miles to get home and I laughed my ass off virtually non-stop the entire time; I spent several blocks walking backwards because it seemed like something I should practice at the time. We went to 7-11 and I bought 6 bags of Reese's Peanut Butter Balls and a Slurpee which I filled up halfway with Blue Razberry Slurpee and halfway with straight Mt. Dew. Overall, I'd have to say the experience was more pleasant than not.

That said, I really don't understand the appeal of pot. Many of my friends have used it to extreme degrees in the past; I could count on both hands the number of times I've done it, and half the time it didn't feel all that great. It's not really my thing I guess.

LOL @ the holier than thou folk around here. Humans have been using plants to get high since the dawn of man. Hell, I bet God himself would laugh at your dumbasses for being squares your whole life and not indulging in some of his psychoactive plants.

I've never done it, but I have absolutely NO problem with other people growing and using their own.

1st time was in 74 while in basic training for the Army. 4 of us was sitting on a picnic table behind the barracks after dark. can't remember if was 1 or 2 joints. About 40 minutes later fell back so my back was on the ground and legs on the bench. lay there for about a hour just watching the stars. The odd thing is for about a week I was like a blood hound for it. Was able to smell it from a block away. One time going to the PX with one of the guys had smoked with I caught the smell and told him so, about a block away. Got to a quarter block away and pointed to the window I thought it coming from, second floor of a barrack. When got to it sure enough there was someone standing by the edge and blowing the smoke out. This happened 3 or 4 times during that week.

In the dorms in college. Got super high, basically unable to function. Felt like several hours passed. Wasn't that enjoyable, cause I was paranoid and shiz.

Really, so you would blindly follow any law they put on the books? Wow.

So, you're one of those people that chooses which laws you're going to follow?

Hmmm....I think a law against stealing is stupid.
Speeding in a construction zone? Bah!
Pfftt....who needs to pay taxes...

Where's your limit? Pot is illegal, it can get you arrested, fired, and can ruin your life because of it. Not worth the risk in my eyes.

Yes, it's called thinking for yourself.

I don't steal because it is wrong, not because it is illegal. I don't speed in construction zones because it's dangerous for the workers, not because it is illegal. I pay taxes because if I don't I'll be arrested and put in jail, not because it is the law.

There is a risk to buying and using pot, but it varies tremendously. If someone is passing a joint around at a party, and you take a puff, the risk of getting arrested and charged for that is very, very low. If you run around the streets trying to score dimebags from anyone that looks like they might deal, your risk is quite high.

If there is anything to be gained from being exposed to the use of pot it has be the realization that you have a right to question authority and also you have the responsibility to conquer your fears.

The first time I did it was at band practice with my drummer. He brought over a big ass piece, but I didn't know what I was doing and I don't think I got high. I was giggly, that's about it.

The next time was different. I got super stoned and felt super paranoid. I was at a party with a bunch of people I didn't really know and it sucked, haha.
