Do you remember the TV show "The Young Ones"?

1980s British commedy about 4 students flatting.

I'm watching a rerun now and I think it's still damned funny (lots of simalarities to my student days)

Was it popular in the US?

They used to show in on MTV in the late 80's. It was really funny Pretty bizarre too.

I loved that show, specially the one where neil, I think thats his name the one with stars on his forehead, gets a headache and cant get rid of it. He then proceeds to hit his head on the bomb that landed in front of their Fridge.


You brought back so many good memories for me.

How could I forget. Have you seen that add for the magnatec engine oil with Neil in it? I think it's just in Australia. It's very funny. Neil freaks out because he thinks that other oils have been hurting his combi called Daisy.

There was no character named Nigel...

The main characters are:

Rick: a fanatical disciple of Cliff Richard, eager to protest his lack of virginity at every opportunity.

Vyvyan: a total nutter, hell bent on bringing about maximum mayhem and destruction.

Neil: a hippy type who does most of the cooking (mainly with lentils) and cleaning (what there is of it).

Mike: a smoothie, totally out of step with the rest of the no-hope loonies in the house.

If you haven't seen the show, you don't know what you are missing. It really is one of the funniest bits of English t.v. programming since Monty Python.

My Aunt when I was younger use to come over and watch this show with me.

I loved the one where Neil got a cold and Vyv (I think it was Vyv) stapled a garbage bag over his head, then Neil starts sneezing and when the bag blows, it's full of all kinds of green goo. Or the one where Rick smacks Neil in the head with a shovel and the freaky garden gnome runs around yelling, "You killed the hippy!"

Or when they went to do laundry and all the washers closed when they got a whiff of their clothes...so Rick says, "Oh, la di da...what do we have here? Felicity Kendall's underpants?" and all the washers open back up.

Awesome show. I used to watch it when MTV used to pair it up with Monty Python late at night.
