Darn it darthtony, there goes another thirty bucks and I'm about to get laid off. Oh well, there are few little things on this earth that are a must have and this is definitely one. I was already in college when this series aired and I bought my first VCR just so I could tape this. 😱

elgato, not to make you feel old, but i used to race home from junior high to watch this show...my parents had bought a vcr a year earlier and i had to figure out how to program it to tape every day

robotech rocks, they did a phenomanal job tying the 3 diff series into 1 storyline...i the late 80's they were going to make a original robotech series call the sentinels, but as the yen/dollar exchange rate got wider & wider they were forced to cancel the series, they eventually released the first 2 or 3 eps as a movie...damn shame it was cancelled b/c of the exchange rate...could have been something

Sigh ....
It's too late. I'm old and I know it. 🙂

I was also in Junior High. However, no VCR at the time, so I had to wake up at 6am to watch it. Now I just need to schedule 40+ hours some time to watch the whole thing once it's completely released 🙂

Just so everyone knows, the first Robotech series is 36 episodes, 24 episodes for the 2nd, and 25 for the third and final series. (Total of 85 episodes)

And if anyone is too cheap to buy the dvd's you can download the episodes in real video format (just search with any Gnutella client), it's not a great encode but if you just want to watch them it'll do. Personally I loved this cartoon as a youth but I find it a little tedious to watch now, so owning them doesn't necessarily appeal to me.

stagefright, go away
this is my big day.
this is my chance to be a star!

i liked minmei as a child but in hindsight, i have now learned to appreciate rick's decision.

Superkeith,

Exactly. 🙂 The first time I watched the series (when I was a kid) I was wondering why Rick didn't get hooked up with Minmei in the end. I was kind of dissappointed because I liked her.

But when I got the chance to watch the series again when I was older, Minmei seemed shallow, self-absorbed, and capricious. It now seemed the right choice for Rick to ditch Minmei and hook up with Lisa. Because Minmei was concentrating on everything else but Rick, she let him slip right through her fingers (when she could have had him from day one).

Oh my, was this a thread about hot deals? Seems I got a little off track while standing on my soap box! 😀 😀

Greetz all,

The last time I watched Robotech was back when it first aired on the tv durring the 80's. I ordered and recieved the Box set of 12 episodes. They are not the best (as far as artifacts in the playback) but considering the age of the masters its a very good transfer! They even include the commercial break segments that aired originaly. A Very good purchase for anyone who grew up watching Robotech.

And BTW yes as a child I liked Minmai but now as an adult I cannot stand her!

I just got my box set in the mail today from buy.com! You gotta love having a buy.com warehouse near were you live to get same day shipping via regular priority mail!

One of the coolest aspects of the show was the mecha. The Transformers that was on about that time released a toy called "Jetfire". This was an exact duplicate of the Veritech fighter minus the paint and stickers. It actually transformed as the show Veritechs did. This was like my favorite toy growing up. I actually still have it although it is kinda beat up....

mark for today
good discussion here, although i think carl macek deserves the revilision(?) he experiences at cons

that's an incredible coincidence Nosferatu! everyone here is crazy transformer freaks, and one of my potna stumbled onto a page with jetfire and was going off about how bad bass he was

jetfire was just very confused. he was built a deceptacon but had the conscience and heart of an autobot. imagine mother teresa being raised by marilyn manson...

until stormshadow realizes that cobra commander will never tell him that zartan killed his master, snakeyes' father, he wont find inner peace...

oops...wrong cartoon.

previous posts confirmed: fry's (manhattan beach) gots a grip of the boxed set for $29.99

Just thought i'd mention it. Animeigo is currently working on subbing and digitally restoring the entire Macross series. "The Macross Saga" of robotech was LOOSLY based on this, taking some scenes and drastically changing the storyline to fit with the other two parts of robotech. $250 for the entire DVD set if you preorder. Out by christmas. Here's a link.

Speaking of the Veritech diecast toy, anyone know where I can get one of these? Did they ever re-release them in Japan or the US? I have heard of the cheap Korean made ones, but are there japanese ones? I had Jetfire too and it was cool that he had the bazooka and the break-off armor and jetpack. Also, do any of you have the Alpha or Beta fighter from the Next Generation series? It was those 2 fighters that could link together and form a gigantic ship. Did they ever have a toy of that? Any links or info about these diecast toys is appreciated.😎

i've got a question for all folks who have received their DVDs.... does it come with japanese language/english sub, or it only contains english dub?

thanks 🙂

How bad is the picture quality? I'm a little worried about this, as I'm kind of a stickler on quality issues. Are we talking VCD quality, better, worse? I hope I didn't waste my money...
