Come on, it's 20 bucks and 20 minutes. Just go to Jiffy Lube and be done with it. Although, 2000 miles passed the 3000 mile limit isn't too horrible.
Just make sure you install a quality oil filter. The oil you use does not matter; any oil is worthless if it has solid particles in it.

As long as you don't go for a really long time, you're fine. My car has a thing built in that counts the engine revolutions and calculates oil changes on that. I think it ends up being aroudn 6000 miles or so.
There is nothing in any car that tells you when it's time to change the oil. If there is an oil change indicator, it's based purely on mileage..
MAYBE it could be based on driving conditions and milage, but I haven't heard of anything so complex in the automotive world yet.
