Do you recommand to keep the HDD cool? Or don't even bother?

I have two HDD put into 3.5" bay, they generate quite a bit of heat, so I thought I should put a fan, just to keep it cool...
Should I? or it'll be fine with the way it is.

If it needs cooling, manufacture would put it on.. but most of those high-end HD, scsi, are in a server which sits in a ACed room, so they assume it'll be cool..

I have several drive, regular 7200 ide and they seem to get pretty hot... I just have one of those flat cooler on it and it seems to cool fairly well.. from hot to warm... but guess what... most of them still failed... RMA a bunch of drives that were on cooler... it's good in theory but drive still fail... I guess anything mechanical fails after a while...

That really depends on your hard drives. i have a couple of 1st gen 10K SCSI HDs that get too hot for comfort so I have active cooling on those. I also have a newer 7200 IDE that runs great without cooling.

I originally didn't have cooling for the 10Ks, but they kept freezing up on me. After installing the cooling devices, they ran great. I am using the GlobalWIN FBH20 "King Kong II" bay cooler.

you only really need to cool the higher rpm hard drives IF your overall cooling is adequate

I cool my hard drives only because I have 5 of them and they're stacked pretty close. They get pretty friggin' hot and the ambient temperature in the case would be significantly higher if I didn't have extra fans blowing their heat out. It's might not be necessary but this damned PC hobby makes you really anal about temperature! ;)

2 HD shouldn't usually present a problem with good case cooling, but 7200rpm do run hot. Some 3½" cages have open brackets on the bottom. If not, easy to do with 4 small metal strips and nuts\bolts. The area underneath is usually free space anyway! Just a thought :)

I cool my 7200rpm drives with fans, since I do abuse them a lot.. but if you have adequate cooling/airflow inside the case, it shouldn't matter that much.

a few years ago I did kill my micropolis because of the heat :D and see it self destruct in front of me as well :(

I wouldn't mount drives one over the other unless there was at least 1/2" between them, and I would prefer vertical mounting if no fan was used because it reduces the temperature a lot. But there's no need to go overboard with multiple fans.
