If so, how much typically (percentage compared to your yearly wage) and when?

yes... :(
with this slowdown in the IT industry, salaries are getting restructured so that the bonus becomes a major component. In my case its around 30%

IT is hard to get anything these days, you're lucky if you have a stable job!

Only working part-time (only 18yrs old) but I still get a Christmas bonus. Its been going up every year. This year, I'll be about a month's worth of pay (100 hours @ $10.50) - give or take. Not much, but I'm happy.

Edit:

Ironically this has been the best year the company has ever seen and my boss(s) have asked me to work full time.

i would expect a performance bonus of course. what i meant in my previous posts about the bonus component was the percent of salary that was originally promised to me/my friends at campus that has now being converted into a variable portion as a result of the slowdown.

~10% of gross, payable in quarterly installments, so you don't spend it all in one place. :p

I'm an electrical engineer, and we get a Christmas bonus that is about 3% of our salary. This is a little less than one extra paycheck. Although, with the economy the way it is, I am not sure if that will still happen :(

What a joke it is... I barely get 4% of my income... then Uncle Sam swoops in.

I got a $3000 ataboy about a month ago. I'd much rather have a higher salary than bonuses though. They tax bonuses a lot higher than regular salary. That bonus check was $1700 after taxes!
