As of right now you can't even get an account, so there isnt much to worry about.

They're going to have to do something to prevent this, because otherwise it will become a haven for warez. Even if there's a max attachment size of 1mb, that wouldn't stop someone from sending 700x1mb files to someone else.

I hope they put some sort of automated signup blocker in place too, because you know there's 10,000 people out there with simple signup scripts waiting for it to begin public beta so they can grab the most popular prefixes.

I onyl want 3 accounts. The name I've always wanted, and the 2 I currently use. One is my normal email addy, the other is for resumes and "professional" based correspondance.

even if they do have a size limit you could still do that.

gmail is going to be the biggest piracy thing evar.

Is there some way to differentiate binary attachments and plain text email? Because if that's the case, they could do something like "1gb of email storage*" where the *has some fine print reading "plain text only, 50mb for binary attachments" to make sure they don't become a pirates haven.

I'm sure google has thought this through, if we've thought of it, chances are they have too.

No chance. Your average ATOT'er is a *highly* intelligent person, far more then most people. I'm sure they havent thought of this...... 😉

Still, its a cool and attractive thought. 😀

So then they will just do what they do on newsgroups.. uuencode binary files. Just download the text parts, convert them back to binary, and viola.

Yeah, but if you send a email related to MS Windows, you'll end up having to deal with MS Windows related advertisements all over the page. 😉

Imagine mailing lists for a warez site. You sign up for email once doom3, hl2, and windows longhorn come out. Once it comes out, you have it in your email box. Crazy.

They must be doing a VERY limited test right now (supposedly only ~1,000 people.) We're a major advertiser on Google and I personally signed up for it the day it became possible to register for updates, but still didn't get an invite. All I've seen is that it will be launching publically in a matter of 'weeks.'

The nice thing about all this is that it'll pretty much force Yahoo and Microsoft to respond in kind at some point.
