Do you put garbage in the garbage can or the toilet?

I was raised to put used garbage in the garbage can, but recently I've come to understand that it is acceptable to put it in the toilet instead. Supposedly this results in less wear-and-tear on my garbage can.

That's fucking stupid. What do you do when the garbage can gets full? Why not just throw it on the floor? OR, just open a window (if you have them) and toss it outside to let the wind deal with it?
